We had two fantastic meals at La Pizzaio, as we were so impressed with it first time that we ended up cancelling another place we'd booked to return a week later. What really made it stand out was the quality of service, we were made to feel really welcome by the host (as a family of five, sadly that's not always the case) and noted that everyone else there was treated with a really personal touch. The owner (who spoke perfect English) took the time to explain the specials available and sold us on a top class burrata to share (CAD 29) which we likely wouldn't have chosen without the recommendation. The pizzas were excellent, quite light with a thin base, and with a plethora of toppings to choose from. The salads that some of our party had were excellent too, as were the desserts - I went for the signature dessert of the restaurant - a Mars bar creme brulee. There was a good selection of drinks including craft beers on draught. Be warned, however, the cocktails are lethal! The first time we went, having arrived on the train (its a two minute walk from the station) it was pouring with rain and we had five suitcases with us. The owner went above and beyond to source us a large taxi - which wasn't easy! All in all I would highly recommend, if we didn't live 3,000 miles away we would be back every week! I would advise booking as the place is fairly small, with just a few tables. It's the sort of place you might walk past from the outside, but trust me -...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place. My husband and I took the train from Montreal to Quebec and stopped here for lunch when we arrived. We had a great meal, good cocktails, and a fun conversation concerning FIFA and the World Cup with the gentleman who I assume was the owner. We had such a good time that we decided to have lunch there again on our way out of town two days later. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the doors were locked, and the attached sign was posted on the door. My French isn't great, but it seems to me that the sign said they would be closed "that night". But we were there at 12:45, when they should have been open for lunch. Worse, we peeked in the window and saw people inside, who ignored us and didn't even bother to come to the door to apologize or offer an explanation. We decided to eat at the Asian place next door, then once again stopped by Pizzaio before we headed to the train station. The door was still locked, there were still people inside, and they still chose to ignore us completely. The pizza on day one was very good, but their behavior was pretty disrespectful. Terribly...

Had a recent dinner at Pizzaio while visiting Québec City & we were throughly impressed. There was a delicious little amuse-bouche, followed by a splendid burrata for entrée (there is a daily special menu which changes regularly, and our entrée was chosen from that). This was followed by our main course of pizza - both the mushroom and the pomodoro were sensational.
We sat at the bar because we didn’t have reservations, and only got lucky to be able to do so because we arrived very early. It was a Friday night but nonetheless reservations are a good idea. A number of potential clients were turned away due to lack of space.
From our vantage point we watched the owner prepare drinks and manage the guests, the service, the phone orders, and table service/cleanup. Somehow he was able to juggle all of it without problems. In the meantime, his family was hard at work in the kitchen making delicious items.
I highly recommend this small, immaculately run, family restaurant in a lovely part of Vieux-Québec. It was a pleasure to eat there and we will...
