Taj Mahal — Restaurant in Quebec

I'm a tourist from Toronto of Indian Origin. Me & my wife were craving Indian food so we ended up at this place. By far the worst version of Indian food and hospitality ever !! Here's why: the owner/manager is from Bangladesh (he himself admitted) and not an Indian and has no sense of Indian food or mannerism. The moment we entered the disrespectful manager pushed us to give the order on the spot however we requested for 2 mins to decide. The server didn't remember half of the order and salad was served almost at the end. The food did not taste Indian from any angel. No water was served until after. And the server had a very bad attitude to throw the tissues on the table while we are eating. We requested for the Indian pickle and server replied in a very rude way that you need to pay for that, we said sure that's fine. Garlic naan was served without real bits of grated garlic, instead they use garlic powder which is not authentic. Butter naan was served without butter, & partly burned. Chicken tikka masala was served with shezwan (chinese) sauce, not the right way to be prepared. I was very disappointed so I didn't give any tip because of the bad food and overall experience and the manager had the audacity to say "I notice you didn't give any tip, if you come next time I won't let you enter. I do the same with other customers who don't give tips." I then had to speak up in the same tone and let him know about what all went wrong. And owner replied back saying, "well that's your opinion." And walked off.

Super disappointed. Would never come back again. Would not ever recommend this place, this person does not know that in Indian culture hospitality has a great importance. He made our last evening in Quebec city a very disappointing one. Should have rather gone to a Mc Donald's or...

We were there tonight for dinner. We reached around 9:35 pm. We were group of 6 girls and I noticed there was flies in one of the plate. Upon letting them know they took the plate inside and just stood at the counter. The food was pretty average. As mentioned in other reviews as well their daal was super watery. 2 of us are vegetarians so we had no option as this was the only place open. Later, during bill the guy started arguing instead of apologizing even once. He mentioned u are saying now after eating the entire thing. We ordered 8 naans and left 4 of them on the table. Rest people just ate chicken biryani. They were like did we purposely put the fly in your food. We can’t do anything if flies came to your food. Next time they might say we can’t do anything if we get sick from our food lol. So ridiculous. Totally not worth it.

Reply to the owner’s reply: First of all it was never about the money. We have paid the full price for your food haven’t we? And your so called customer was one amongst you not the actual customer as there was so one there we were the last to leave. So shame on you. You didn’t even apologize once. It’s all about customer service. I know we have ordered stuff and we were gonna pay. Don’t dare call us these type of Indians. Look at yourselves first. Atleast have the audacity to accept that there was a fly in the plate. I have seen how have you replied to other customers reviews that shows your customer service.

2nd edit: do u want picture of receipt as well? When someone is hungry and this the only place open you have no choice but to eat. It was never about money. HEALTH ALRET * I wish I could give zero star. RACIST MANAGER , THEY SERVE STAIL FOOD. THEIR STAFF DOES NOT WASH HANDS AFTER USING WASHROOM, And this review is specifically for the manager on the floor who even does not know how to speak with the guest.This person needs to learn hospitality. If the owner is reading this review these are the concerns that we would like to put under your notice. We entered in your resturant and girl at the enterance without even greeting us just slammed the menus on your face and said check may be you would not like the menu. Question? Is that how you welcome your guest?

The table next to us informed us that one of their staff used washroom and didn’t not even bother to wash their hands. The manger on the floor even being apologetic to resolve the issue they started explaining to everyone that it’s not their staff.

We were served stail gulab jamun upon telling the manager or server :whosoever said that he does not care about reviews . He was racist and said ABOUT INDAIN COMMUNITY THAT ALL INDIAN ARE CARZY THEY ARE NOT GOOD PEOPLE. YOU INDIAN DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING.you are saying all this in this liberal country? Who gave you right to discriminate us based on our ethnicity and that too in front of 50 people who all are Indians ?

There you go your staff said that WE DONG CARE ABOUT REVIWES but as a consumer do and all other guest like us will do who actually want to eat food here. AFTER ALL THIS WE WERE GENEROUS ENOUGH TO STILL PAY THEM.

Owner and health department should address these issue here I am writing this review on my bed feeling sick for the rest of the day
