The Restaurant Trattoria La Scala was a mis on many aspects.
The food was mediocre. We were a party of 4. 1 dish, the steak tartare, was not great but eatable, but the other 3 were not. In general, they could not cook pasta, which is a big problem for an Italian restaurant. The highlight of mediocrity was smoked salmon penne, cooked at the table. After cooking down the sauce and added a flambe for show, they soaked the penne in the sauce and let it cook to destruction. All dente , it was not!. The more tomato sauce tha made the dressing on the other 2 dishes was insipid with its lack of taste and felt straight from a can.
There was also some pizza served. There was no pizza dough. Just a piece of crispy cracker dressed with salty cheese. So, they can’t cook pizza either.
My veal was soaked in a pepper sauce. Just too much sauce and it was just blah.
The service From a guy trying to be our buddy with load talk and bad jokes. I understand that mask are no longer expected for service, but a bit is restraint is expected.
The ambiance The pianist was good. It was a bit loud, but that was a small deal compared to the above.
So please go to have a bar ambiance just to have a drink. For the food, don’t’ let the rather high rating...
Read moreNormally I don't write reviews but I had such an amazing experience at La Scala that I felt like sharing with everyone. We went to La Scala on 24th Dec evening, one of the servers was about to give us a table when another guy takes over and informs us that there is no table currently and we need to reserve it in advance. Fair enough, we liked the place so we went to another place for dinner and decided to come back on the 25th. We called the restaurant, booked a table for 4 for 8pm. All good. Next day we get there almost on time and ask for our table, the same guy informs us that the normal menu is not being served tonight, they have special menu for $80 person ( didn't even try to explain what was on the menu). We told him that no one informed us about the special menu when we called to reserve the table to which he said that the person might not good in English. Never have I been judged by my looks that I can't afford a $80 meal. Feeling disgusted we left the place.

Read moreWhat I am saying maybe controversy. My husband I had a dinner last night. Everything was almost perfect until the end of the meal. While waiting for him to pick me up, a waiter came and asked me if there’re any problems with the service. I replied by “not at all, everything’s good”. Then he continued, normally in Quebec, it’s neccesary to add 15% for the tips ( that time I suddenly understood why he asked me the first question). And he ended up with the statement: j’espère bla bla bla la prochaine fois ( I couldn’t hear all of the words). Actually our bill after tax is a bit over 200$, we put 10$ for the food, and 10$ for the pianist down stair. My mood and also my husband’s were not really easy. I understand tips is a kind of culture here in Nord-America but for me, it depends. Not only tips can tell you how good of the service but the continual coming back after that. It’s not so convenient to force the clients adding at least 15%. After this event, I am thinking “jamais la...
