I ordered delivery last night. Maybe in house dining is better, however my experience was very disappointing. I ordered sweet and sour chicken balls, beef fried rice, chicken with orange sauce and the steamed pork bun dim sum.
Although the delivery time was quite quick only took around 30 minutes compared to the hour the said it would take, it was the food that was far from par.
The Beef fried rice was good, it was cooked well and moist enough. How ever the container they give it to you in is the size of a small soup bowl. Which i found a little annoying as it was $13. But size aside the rice tasted good.
The chicken balls were one of the worst two items. They must have had left over chicken balls and thought they cooked just cook them a little more to make them seem fresh. Otherwise they clearly just didn't care and let them cook to the point of rock hardness. I had difficulty merely sinking a metal fork into the chicken ball to cut in half it was so hard. As well they had a dark brown outer colour instead of light gold colour. Which led to my assumption of refrying or merely just over cooking the hell out of them. As for size and price I'm not sure what other Chinese food places give you, but I received 12 chicken rocks (balls) for $15. So do with that information what you will.
The steamed pork buns were the other item embarrassingly sad. Steamed is the first word in the name of the item, it tasted like they were left on a counter in open air for 3 days. The outside had a rough hard layer built up on the outside. The bun was chewy and rubber like, with an almost non existent filling. Fortunately enough I only paid $6 for 3 of them so it could've been far more disappointing in a larger quantity.
The orange chicken was decent, it seemed to be cooked well. Once again my only issue with it was portion size. You get a very small container at the cost of $15.
In conclusion, the taste of your food was okay for the items that weren't overcooked or dry and old. However, in a cost, taste and size comparison. This restaurant can't compete with the rest of red deer's restaurants.
Even a place like Phoenix buffet, their food costs the same as Red Star's. However Phoenix Buffet gives you larger containers and 2 containers of the same item, for...
Read moreMan i am not one to write bad reviews and its upsetting i even have to go out of my way to do this but it needs to be done. So i just ordered from here because my regular place was closed. I thought i would give them a 2nd chance. I haven't ordered from here in a good 5+ years, and now i remember why.
Firstly my 4th bite of food had a Chicken Bone in it. And to add insult to injury 2 of my other bites has chicken tendon in it this was just ONE plate of food i can't even imagine whats in the rest of the container worst part was it was inedible and even more unappetizing.( if you would like pictures of what was in my food i am more than happy to show you) The chicken balls were burnt looking tasted like old Oil and Soaked in oil they looked wet for crying outloud. They were almost impossible to cut let alone chew through the tough exterior but also very very dry. The fried rice seemed to be okay? But i don't know if that bone came in my fried rice or in my almond guy ding.
The chicken looked unaturally translucent and very rubbery and odd textured.
Next to the burning hot containers ( surprisingly) they put my pop which by the time it arrived was far from cold. And a broken empty fortune cookie.
Red star is over priced and under quality. I don't care if you have larger portions its just not good to begin with.
Ill stick to China House. Affordable, fresh, delicious, and above all great quality with great service.
The only positives from this order was the fact that they called to confirm my order. And the delivery guy was super nice and friendly so he got a nice big tip.
Never again red star never again. I would not recommend you to anyone.
The most ironic part is the one fortune cookie that was sort of intact read " a smile increases your face value" No smiles tonight that's...
Read moreAVOID AVOID AVOID DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!! I ordered takeout through uber eats, which was delivered to my doorstep (by their driver) no knock heard or PHONE CALL even letting me know it was delivered so you'd guess my food got cold. My two chow mein meals were both completely unedible One just completely uncooked and raw, the noodles were basically snapping off. And the other one completely burnt and black also containing snapping noodles.None of the special instruction were followd at all. I had picture proof of EVERYTHING AS WELL OF PROOF OF IT IN MY GARBADGE only for the owner to yell at me LIE and tell me that's just how they made it and there was nothing they could do but to come back and reorder (typical) Also tried telling me i ate my food when i have PICTURE PROOF AND IT IS THE OPPOSITE OF FRESH. I promise you this stuff is not fresh, the noodles were basically morphed into the package and you can tell it had been in there for awhile(sitting on a shelf). Did not help they did nothing but tell me to come back to the restaurant, i dont have the time for that as it way all the way on the other end from where i live hence why i got delivery and wanted my refund. Completely unedible and horrible unprofessional managment that only care about whats in your pocket!!!!!!! 40 bucks down the drain, seems they only ever try when its convenient for the restaurant which explains the few amount of okay reviews.
