We visited The Granary on Mother's Day (Sunday, May 8th) and we were super excited to try this place as the menu items looked great! There were 5 adults in our party.
We made a reservation a few weeks ago and when we arrived we got seated right away. Our server was really friendly and polite. She provided wonderful service during our visit. Our issues definitely weren't with their service, but it was their food.
We started our order with 2 cinnamon buns, and they were really good! They're a heavier dough, but they were delicious and a must try when you go there.
For our entrees, we had 2 Classic Eggs Benedict, Huevos Rancheros Benedict, Harvest Omelette and a Harvest Skillet.
Our meals came out within 10-15 mins of ordering. The one thing we could all say is that the flavors of our meals were great. Very flavorful, seasoned well, and good sized portions.
The problem was in the temperature for all of our meals. At first, all three of us that had eggs benny, our eggs were cold. Not luke warm, cold. We told our server, they refired 3 new plates, and when the new dishes came out it was the same thing. At that point, a couple of us changed our dishes to the Coffee Garden waffle and the biscuits and bacon. The 3rd person wanted to try the eggs benny again. The Manager came out and let us know that the hollandaise sauce is made from scratch, which is great to hear! That doesn't happen often.
When the waffles came out, they were crispy, tasted great, but again, they were cold. I ate them because at that point, I realized it wasn't going to get any better.
Our guest that had the biscuits and gravy enjoyed them, but the bacon wasn't hot either.
The 3rd time for the classic eggs benny, the hollandaise was brought out on the side and the egg was hot, but the sauce was ice cold. Not kind of warm, but refrigerated cold. "Real" hollandaise won't be piping hot, but it shouldn't be cold either.
After chatting during our meals, the other 2 guests with the omelette and the skillet, their meals were just luke warm as well, they weren't hot.
So while the flavors were all good, the food temperatures of our breakfast was not good which was off-putting.
For this reason, we definitely...
Read moreWe recently dined at the Granary Kitchen. It was later at night, and we were starving. The menu had an impressive amount of option, so it took me a while to decide. When the waitress came over to take our order I had asked just for one more minute or two, but she returned 10 min later. We ordered the spinach dip to start which took ages to get to the table, but the server apologized for the wait. Upon delivery to the table we realized it came with tortilla chips rather than the advertised naan bread (not normally a big deal, but we ordered that specifically so our baby could have some of the naan as chips are not safe for him to eat). We brought this to the waitresses attention and she apologized - stating she should have told us that they were out of naan, and asked us if she could get us something for the baby instead. She brought us out a tiny piece of garlic bread for him, which was perfect. Our meals came not too long after we finished the starter. Both of us ordered the chicken madeira. It was plated beautifully but the taste let us down. My chicken just tasted like a charbroiled grill, the sauce had maybe 2 small pieces of mushroom, and the mashed potatoes were very salty. To boot, there was a hair baked into the cheese on my chicken, but we were too hungry to complain. At this point we just wanted to go home. The waitress took a while to clear our plates and bring the bill, considering how few people were dining at the time. After paying, I looked at the bill a bit closer as it was more than I was expecting and I realized they charged me for the garlic bread! It was half the size of my palm and was offered in compensation for our altered starter. That made me grumpy, had I know I would’ve been charged for it I would not gotten it for my son. My fault for not bringing it to attention before I paid, but still poor business practice. Overall, the atmosphere was nice, but the food was nothing special. Server was sweet, but really not the best at timing and adjusting the bill. Not sure if we...
Read moreI've been to the Granary on 3 different occasions for lunch and dinner. The first time, my family and I all loved the blueberry barbecue and dill wings, but the rest of the food tasted kinda plain and the portions were small. Their menu options had lots of variety though. The second time, both my bf and I thought the meals were alright, just expensive for the amount and quality. My ~$17 spicy pasta had 4 slices of sausage, and the chicken portion on his pasta dish was tiny. The third time, I went with a few of my girlfriends. One of my friend's parents happened to be at the restaurant at the same time as us and even had the same server. They told us they had great service from her, but we did not. They even noted that it seemed as though we were being kind of ignored or forgotten. It took a long time for the server to come back around after seating us and take our drink and meal orders, but she was polite. We got our drinks, but after we had been waiting 45 minutes since ordering, the server came by and apologized as she had forgotten to put in our meals. We finally got our food an hour and a half after we initially ordered, but were let down by the quality. Each of my friends' fry sides were dry, hard, and overly salty. As a positive, the gravy here was amazing! Sadly, my thai dish had peanuts in it, even though I had asked for none when I ordered. I ended up just trading meals with one of my friends so that we wouldn't have to wait for a fresh plate. Nothing was done to rectify the issue with our hour and a half wait, so I didn't bother to complain to the server about the peanuts mishap, we just wanted to leave (although, in hindsight, I should have mentioned it so that she makes sure to doublecheck for allergy/meal restrictions.) I've heard really good things about the Granary and wanted to like it so bad because it is a local business, but each experience has been kind...
