Our new favourite Mexican restaurant!
Food was delicious - very fresh and flavourful. Probably the best tasting we’ve had in a long time. Portions are generous, particularly with the proteins. Every item we had was packed with meat; not heavy on fillers like beans, rice or cheese, like we’ve had in other restaurants. Considering the portion sizes and quantity of protein in the dishes, the menu prices offer very good value for money.
We shared the “quesabirria” dish and the “platter for two”. Both were excellent. Either could be a meal for two on its own but we couldn’t choose so decided to get both. The “quesabirria” which is a birria meat quesadilla was so delicious. It was the most flavourful birria we’ve had! The meat was perfectly seasoned and wasn’t dripping in greasy oil. The tortilla was tender and thin and not smothered with a lot of cheese which meant it didn’t overpower the meat or make the dish taste oily and fatty. The portion was big! It took up the entire dinner plate and was thick, easily 3 or 4 times as thick as a normal quesadilla. The “platter for two” was a great sharing dish and is a generously portioned meal for two. You get two tacos (chorizo), two enchiladas (chicken), and two burritos (beef, shredded not ground). Plus small sides of beans, rice and pico de gallo on one platter. Absolutely delicious. Flavours were very fresh. The meats were not oily and did not taste over-seasoned or over-garnished. The food wasn’t smothered in cheese or sauce - just the right amount to complement the meat, not overpower it.
Service was very friendly and cheerful. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and was happy to answer any questions we had. I recommend calling ahead for a reservation as the dinner rush is very busy and tables fill up quickly.
The atmosphere was lively and the restaurant is nicely decorated to give guests an authentic Mexican experience. I deducted 1 star simply due to the volume of the music. It was very loud. Small children may find the loud music overwhelming. We found it forced guests to speak very loud to the point where we could hear other tables’ conversations because people were shouting.
Overall, despite our critique about the loud music, we had a very enjoyable visit and will...
Read moreThere is like zero mexican food in Richmond Hill so this resto is a very welcome addition to the hood. The best tacos I've ever had outside of mexico were in san diego, los angeles and san francisco (all close to the southern border). These tacos are actually above average even though they don't stack up to the ones down south!
Birria tacos: The meat in the birria tacos was very tender and moist. The size of the tacos was on point. I do think there's room for improvement though. While they used the proper oaxacan cheese and the tortilla shell was made fresh, the consummé was not as flavourful as the ones down south. It was slightly peppery but it wasn't nearly as layered as it should've been. Another thing I preferred down south was having the tortilla shells dipped in consummé first before being laid on the griddle (there's a place in SF that actually crisped the outside of the tortilla shell with cheese as well).
Fish tacos: My gf really liked these tacos. Her taco experience down in SF was vastly inferior to mine and she actually liked these fish tacos over what she had down south. I took a bite and the white fish was cooked very well. The fish was flaky yet moist and there was a hefty amount of fish.
Grilled chicken fajitas: Classic spread with tortillas, rich black beans, rice, salsa, cheese and the sizzling plate of chicken on top of roasted peppers. The black beans at this resto are actually amazing. Better flavour than some restos' black beans down south. I do wish they gave me real oaxacan cheese instead of the traditional, cheap tex mex cheese though. Put everything all together and it was just an explosion of flavour in the mouth.
Mariachi platter: I tried this awhile ago when the resto first opened up. It comes with tacos, a burrito and enchiladas so you get to try a lil bit of everything. The enchiladas were a sleeper hit for me. The chorizo is not much to write home about but the platter as a whole is really filling and for under $30 it's a GREAT bang-for-your-buck deal.
Parking lot is a bit of a hassle during the weekends as it's always busy. You'll want to park on the...
Read morePassed by their location in Vaughan many times, and have always wanted to try it! Luckily, they also have this location in Richmond Hill that is much closer to me. Our server also mentioned that this location tends to be less busy than the one in Vaughan which I was happy about since crowds tend to make me nervous. Onto the food!
-[MARIACHIS NACHOS] $15 🧀 Black beans, Salsa Roja, blend with Monterey jack, mozzarella, and cheddar cheese. Topped with Pico de Gallo, green onions, and serrano peppers. 🍅 Okay, these were SO loaded! Each chip was "the chip" that people usually search for when reaching in a stack of nachos in that each chip was absolutely topped with everything 🌶️ If spice is not your thing, definitely get the serrano peppers on the side because although they are more flavorful than jalapenos, they are also far spicier
-[FRIED AVOCADO TACO] $5 🥑 Topped with Pico de Gallo, coleslaw, mariachi sauce 🥑 This was so good! Never thought that a vegeterian option could be so flavorful and unique 🥑 Highly recommend giving this a try if you're a fan of avocados too
-[FISH TACO] $6 🌮 Lightly hand-breaded white fish. Topped with coleslaw, pickled red onion, cilantro, our mariachi sauce 🌮 The piece of fish was definitely a sizable portion! 🌮 The pickled onions could have been pickled a bit better to get rid of the bite the onions had but otherwise, a super solid taco
-[BURRITO FIT BOWL W/VEGGIES] $17 🥗 Rice, Beans, Salsa Roja, Lettuce, Pico de Gallo, Cabbage, and Cheese with our creamy chipotle dressing. Choice of Chicken/Shredded beef/sauteed veggies. 🥗 The portion was HUGE for this too! Very delicious blend of ingredients
📝 All of their tacos are served as single which gives you the freedom to order as few or as many as you want to try! 📝 All tacos seem to be made as soft tacos, and they are encompassed by two...
