I would give no star for this review if available, 1-star is overrated. You can find very bad attitude from the managers, servers, and staff here; you can find sour egg tarts or uncooked squid serving on your table. If you complain, they would just take it back with no apologies. Oh if you are gifted with a prepaid gift card to this restaurant, you should give it to homeless people instead of using it, because these people will give you dirty looks if they know you are paying by a gift card. I have had the worst experience eating at Orient Bistro, and if you look at their other reviews, my experience is not rare at all. Boss of this restaurant should know that there are so many good options in Richmond Hill and Markham, you do not have to treat your customers like beggars. We gave you a $400 business for LUNCH and I think we did not deserve bad attitudes, long wait (it was a 3-hour lunch), and incomplete order of food.
I will never go back to this restaurant again and I will spread my words to everyone I know in Toronto about this whole experience. I was traumatized from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out. Guys, just google map “dim sum” and blindly go anywhere but here.
To respond to the review comments:
Please do not blame on the pandemic. Speaking of Covid, we have been buying dim sum take out from you in the past years in supporting local business like you. We had missing dishes a few times and we called back to report the missing items (and we paid for them) - we never asked for compensation and we just kept supporting you.
The sour egg tarts and uncooked squids were from our previous visits and we didn’t make it public. I need to clarify that this is not a mistake and my memory count is right. We kept giving you chances and you chose to make us put it public.
We paid $260 for the lunch set that included a fish soup. Listen, we PAID FOR THE FISH SOUP. We did not ask you to put the elephant trunk clamp in our soup. Please stop blaming your mistake on us. In fact, we saw no trace of that piece in our soup. Stop saying we ate it. YOU DID NOT EVEN COOK IT AS PER OUR REQUEST.
You charged us extra $20 for cooking the second dish of the elephant trunk clamp. This dish never came, you threw it somewhere and it my mistake? We didn’t make a scene there and paid for the $20 cooking fee. Surely u need to charge us cooking fee for sashimi.
Guys, this boss keeps arguing to customers and not accepting his own fault. You can see this is being exposed in several other platforms and no apologies were given to us...
Read moreA high-end Chinese restaurant with a humdrum, misleading name, offering refined, well executed seafood centric, Cantonese cuisine.
Nowadays, Cantonese restaurants equipped with huge aquariums that are stocked with live seafood have become a common sight in the vibrant Richmond Hill/Markham Chinese culinary landscape. Nestled behind Richlane Mall, inside a secluded open-air strip plaza, atop of a small knoll, houses another such establishment.
Tonight’s dinner gathering, organized by another family member, is a follow-up to last week’s going-away party. This time, the quality and caliber of food has been substantially elevated! For tonight, the meal will feature a Big Kahuna.....Live Alaskan Red King Crab prepared multiple ways! As for the wines?! Since IMHO, Riesling and Crab together are part of the Creator’s plan, a fine bottle of German off-dry masterpiece to pair with the star is a requisite. In addition to another bottle of elusive perfume and style 2014 Chateau Lafite, a reliable Zenato Amarone was also added to the mix for pairing with the meat dishes.
Our party of eight went through the following courses with gusto and avidity:
9 pounds Alaskan King Crab prepared 3 ways. Steamed legs with caramelized minced garlic on a bed of rice vermicelli Wok fried body with Maggi Sauce Steamed egg custard Chawanmushi with crab brains
Whole Cantonese Roasted Duck, ‘ Pei-Pa Style ‘
Stirred fry Chinese Cauliflower with wind dried preserved meats
Braised Tofu with mixed mushrooms and Chinese Greens
Fried Pork Spare ribs with Preserved Olive Tapenade Glaze
Stirred fry beef with Chinese Kale ( Gai-Lan )
Complimentary desserts of Red bean dessert soup, Cherry flavored jello and Almond Cookies.
Overall, the lovingly prepared food coupled with the superb friendly service created a highly satisfactory dinner experience. Standard of the cooking IMO ranked amongst some of GTA’s best. During the past week, I had the good fortune to savor some extremely well executed Cantonese fare, first from StarChiva and now at Oriental Bistro. Indeed, I am grateful and blessed to live within such close proximity to some of GTA finest Chinese cuisine...
