Another expensive, disappointing and over-rated experience......vow not to return again!! First off...JW?! Nope, it does not stand for Jehovah Witnesses but instead Janice Wong, the pastry chef owner!😂 My first visit to this neighborhood pastry shop and cafe was quite a few years ago when I found the higher-than-norm pricing products too sweet for my liking and hence have not returned since! Recently, a third party foodie told me JW now offers a great tasting 'Chestnut cake'.....my wife's favorite! So, I paid it another visit in the hope of trying one. Sadly, the cake needs to be pre-ordered and cost $60 (cash)/$68 ( credit card ) for a 7" diameter one! ( some decent ones I've encountered elsewhere were only around $38 for a 6" one! Looks like their exorbitant pricing trend still carries on after all these years! ) Since I already set foot inside the store, I decided to pick up an " Earl Grey Mousse, Mandarin Gelee and Chocolate sponge cake " from the sparse display units......BIG MISTAKE! With no displayed pricing, I was stunned to see this stingy size cake ( 2.5 " diameter plus 1.5" high ) costs me a whopping $11.65!! I would have rejected it if it wasn't for the fact the sales lady already packed it into a container. Tasting it at home yielded another unimpressive result. A typical, run-of-the-mill mousse and jelly product with ho-hum looking appearance. Taste and look definitely does not commensurate with the high price they are charging! Note also that, two 'way more superb' patisseries...DUO and Ruelo are just a short drive down the road!! Caveat Emptor!

This place has a lot to offer! Walked in on Wednesday, late morning. There was only a few mini cakes available to order, so I’m giving the benefit of the doubt that it might have still been early, which is the first star off. I tried the lime yogurt cheese cake and flavours were all on point. Nice hit of citrus flavour from the lime and the yogurt cheese was the perfect soft creamy texture. The cake inside was very nice, soft and moist. I know you pay for amazing quality and you totally get that from jw, but almost $10 for one mini cake is quite steep and the second star off. I think I have even bought individual cake slices which have the perecption of being bigger to me for about $8 I would totally say that this is a must try, but it is great for that bucket list to be crossed off type of spot to at least say you had these awesome cakes! Would totally try their whole cakes for a special occasion. They also have sandwiches for that lunch time meal also The place is has a decent amount of seating and a very sleek looking black interior and modern lighting Service was decent too! Very patient while I made my choice for my sweet tooth craving. Great job! Follow me on IG @thirst_and_taste for better pics, vids and more amazing content

The owner was very friendly but the cake was just super disappointing. I ordered a mango cream cake and it looked like something I could’ve made at home myself. The cake literally had 1 single grape and 1 raspberry that was sliced into 3 pieces along with some pomelo as decoration. The cake and packaging looked really cheap for the price which was 55 dollars or 50 cash for 7 inch cake. I thought it would be comparable to other patisseries like duo patisserie or cho Kwok lat but the look and taste doesn’t compare at all. I was hoping the cake would taste a lot better than it looked so I could feel better about it. It tastes like a mango cake from those cheaper Chinese bakeries which I do like but those cakes costs a lot less. I was kind of embarrassed to show the cake to my family to be honest. I was just very surprised by what I got since this place has pretty good reviews.

It's a nice place with good ambiance and adequate coffee, their dessert looked alright but I never tried them, customer service is good as well. Just want to share an experience I don't know what to make out of.

I came here 4 times in total in the last two weeks, twice I stayed for around one hour. twice I stayed for 4 hours using their wifi and power outlet (I made sure there was enough spot and that I spent more than $7). The high frequency was because I needed to wait for a friend who works nearby and because I had interviews close by and needed somewhere to stay. Today was my fourth time here, as usual I spent around 7 dollars, stayed for almost three hours, then the owner came and told me that: They are a small business, their electricity charges are high so it is a big burden for them if I stayed here so long charging my laptop. I should try larger businesses who could take the extra expenses like tim hortons or starbucks.

Of course I left thinking I am a bad customer taking advantages of small businesses like them. I have always thought staying at a cafe for a few hours as long as I spend more than $5 would be enough and actually I was about to buy lunch here as I was grateful that they provided a great spot for me to stay. I was mostly the only customer there which was nice and comfortable for me.

I don't know how much extra electricity charge I caused them and if it is a big issue for small cafes (or maybe this is not a cafe after all) then I am sorry for that. Though I am sure I will not be back for a long time. Not that I think they were wrong, just that I am too...
