The Malibu Lounge — Restaurant in Richmond Hill

I arrived for my friend’s birthday. There was a reservation for 10-12 people. When everyone arrived we were told that ID’s needed to be checked which is protocol, I understand that yes. Everyone showed there ID’s and all was well. 1 person out of the of 12 didn’t have identification. The group was divided between two tables, I tried to explain to a server that Table 1 would possibly be ordering drinks and hookah and Table 2 would just like to order food. We were told that the 1 person who didn’t have identification would have to eat downstairs separately. I understand that this establishment didn’t want to serve to any possible underage customers which is understandable. Although that 1 person isn’t interested in hookah or drinking and just came for dinner on behalf of their friend’s birthday. The birthday girl called in advance prior to booking reservations and was told that the group must be 18+, 10 people out of the 12 we’re 19 and over. The other two were 18 and not interested in drinking or hookah. 5 people ended up leaving because there is no point of being separated in the same restaurant for 1 persons irresponsibility and certain things about the lounge gave red flags as to why we didn’t want to spend our money here and which pushed us to leave.

The furniture is old and peeling, especially the cushion pillows A table was sticky when I arrived Customer Service was 2/10 The Womens Bathroom was very messy The menu is very boring and basic, not inclusive for vegans or vegetarians I tried to order cheddar cheese fries out of the 5 fries options they have and was told they ran out of cheese (on a Saturday night)

I went here a few weeks ago with a big group for my fiancés birthday which was discussed and pre planned prior To the day. We advised of our big group and for bottle service and was promised a private room. The private room was a private space on the upper lever but was so far from bathrooms, servers etc. it was pretty busy that day on the main floor and there was only the bartender and one server working that day. It took a long time for the server to get to us so we ordered our bottle not and when it came we had no glasses, chase or shot cups. So we ended up having to go get it ourselves. The speakers playing music on the main level wasn’t working on the upper level so we couldn’t hear anything. The server so we can connect to the TV in the private room two play our own music and that wasn’t working so we ended up seeing a corner booth free up on the main level, empty and decided to take that booth instead and move ourselves downstairs. We ended up helping the server clean up the tables ourselves. No hate to the servers they were understaffed but the owner knowing our group was coming should’ve planned accordingly. The music was sleepy we ended up asking the bartender to take over, we brought our own chase and cups ourselves cause she was too busy. Also at some point they ran out of cups and had no plastic cups to provide and wouldn’t Offer to wash glasses to give us. The owner eventually came and wasn’t really doing anything to help and also didn’t want to let us sit main level considerating all the issues we had in the private space. Also we bought bottles and he upgraded us to a premium bottle and acted like he gave it to us but we paid for it. At the point with all the issues and considering the size of our group he should just have a second bottle for free. Anyways terrible service again no hate to the servers. The owner was unprepared for us and unprofessional....

We had a big party (20-25 people) so they gave us the upstairs party room.

Pros: The staff (2 guys, 1 with a pony tail) were FANTASTIC. Super helpful and accommodating to our group. we communicated mainly through google chat and they were very responsive. shisha was very smooth and the food was great also! Must get the Malibu fries and wings. The room itself was pretty cool, has a TV and it’s own sound system so we played our own music (we’re EDM/house fans so this was a big win for us once we saw that) They have a minimum spend for the party room which was very reasonable compared to other shisha lounges in the area. the servers didn’t come up to take our order, we went downstairs to order whenever we wanted (for us this was a pro as they didn’t disrupt our time at the party) they kept our cake in the fridge and brought it up when we were ready.

Improvements: they had a very small selection of bottles available, we had to get 3 different vodka brands since they only had 1 of each. We would pre order the bottles next time to make sure they have stock (which was an option they gave us but we forgot to do…) the booths on the second floor were in pretty rough shape. The seats were falling apart and scratching our legs. But we spent most of the time standing and dancing so this wasn’t a huge issue.

Overall the service and the party room was a great experience. Would definitely book again for another birthday party in...
