J Squared Ice Cream - a lovely place for asian inspired ice cream

Black Sesame 8.5/10 you can taste the flavour! the flavour is rich and goes well as ice cream it’s a bit gritty so it can get caught at the back of your throat

vietnamese coffee 8/10 very strong coffee flavour and i personally prefer sweeter flavours. it’s very creamy and melts on your tongue

thai milk tea 7.5/10 the flavour wasn’t as strong as i would have liked. it was pretty mild and the bits of tea leaves added texture to the flavour

dirty oreo 9/10 this surprised me as the ice cream is smooth with chunks of cookie. the oreos is blended well with the rich base. it’s different from a mcflurry because the chocolate is incorporated into the ice cream so well!

shanghai fog is a personal 10/10! the jasmine milk tea goes so well as ice cream and it’s a smooth mild experience! it isn’t super heavy and i could easily have a whole pint!

pandan 8/10 - it was refreshing in the same way as mint but had a mild flavour. it’s interesting and i would recommend it if you like sorbet this would be great on a hot summer day to cool down

not pictured i vaguely remember the roasted oolong milk tea being great too! 8.5/10 i think i prefer the lighter tea flavour of jasmine. it had great flavour and you could really taste the roasted oolong tea. you would like this if you enjoy chatime’s roasted milk tea!

I think J Squared is a genuine artisanal ice cream shop in Richmond. Their commitment to quality ingredients and production methods are evident. It is a rare gem that caters to those who love ice cream and tea and to those who prefer desserts that are not...

When they first opened, I LOVED their tea flavours. Matcha, oolong, Shanghai fog. Oolong and Shanghai fog are still my go-to. But some flavours are really lack lustre, and even kind of bad. Thai milk tea is horribly made. The flavour doesn’t taste like legit Thai milk tea, and the texture is grainy from possibly tea leaves? Furthermore, they won’t make a pint of matcha ice cream for some reason, even though it’s always available in scoops. They are located at the edge of Richmond, and it is far for vancouverites to go. Understanding that, their staple flavours should be available in pints! Furthermore, tasting is not allowed. They opened during Covid and that was understandable, but we’re moving forward, and customers would like to taste test before spending on expensive ice cream. Thanks. I would’ve never purchased a pint of Thai milk tea had I been given the opportunity to taste it.
