My family and I are regular patrons of Daan, a Korean restaurant that we have enjoyed in the past without any issues. Everything is fairly good except the poor ventilation. However, our visit on November 10th left us extremely disappointed. We ordered the original fried chicken wings without any sauce, beef bone soup, and spicy stir-fried chicken. Unfortunately, the soup and chicken wings had a strange and sour taste.
Upon bringing this to the attention of the server, we were met with a dismissive response. The server mentioned they would inform the supplier about the issue and walked away without offering any further assistance. Dissatisfied, I stood up to inquire about the restaurant manager or supervisor. The server informed me that the manager would only be available after 5 PM. Considering it was almost 20 minutes past that time, I decided to wait patiently.
When I inquired again at the front desk about the manager's presence, I was informed that the dish had been removed from the bill. The server said it with contempt. This response and attitude left me angered, and I expressed my frustration. "I worked in the food industry myself in the past, I emphasized that if there are issues with the quality of supplies, a responsible approach would be to reject or report them. Furthermore, in the case of customer feedback on food quality, the restaurant should suggest remaking the dish or removing it from the bill. Simply reporting the issue to the supplier without addressing our concerns is highly irresponsible. We have been regular customers, but this experience has left us extremely disappointed. We will be reporting this matter to the relevant authorities."
After returning home, we experienced stomach pain/burn and symptoms of diarrhea. Concerned for the safety of others, we have submitted a request to the VCH (Vancouver Coastal Health) organization to inspect Daan for food safety issues. It is our hope that this incident is isolated, but we believe it is crucial to prevent harm resulting from improper food storage and handling practices.
Our overall experience on this occasion has been far from satisfactory, and we felt it necessary to share our concerns for the...
Read moreTLDR: the waiters took our very lightly eaten food back to the kitchen to reheat, brought it back out to the wrong table, discovered their mistake afterwards, and didn’t let the diners who got the wrong food know. Long version: I’ve eaten here many times and got take out even more but today was too crazy to not share. This place is usually super packed and the servers are crazy busy with in store and to go orders and I’ve always given them a pass on service. Today, there was only 3 tables who were waiting for food and I didn’t see any to go orders during hour dinner. When we first sat down, the server nicely explained that they were making a new batch of rice so it’ll be a little wait if that’s ok. We were fine with that and placed our order. Short time later, our dishes started to arrive. After 5-10 min, we asked if the server could take the dishes back to the kitchen to re heat, since all the stone plates were cold, as we were waiting for our rice to start eating. At first they said no but a moment later they apologized and took the food back. When they brought the rice, they started to bring the dishes back. But we saw that 1 item came straight to us, and another went to another table 3 seats away. We weren’t certain at this point if it was our ‘touched’ plate of food and didn’t want to cause a scene. But we could see something was really distressing the waiters and they were talking quickly. A while after the all the other food, our last plate came but instead of our ‘touched’ plate, this was definitely a new stone-plate dish. You can tell because the green onions are very raw and recently garnished in top- not at all like a re-heated plate would be. By this point the table that likely got our ‘touched’ plate was chowing down. I never saw the waiters being this issue up with us or the other table. To the other table that got our food: I do apologize for not telling you but I wasn’t sure at the time. My husband and I do not have any commutable diseases including any seasons so cold/flu. We took an onion, chicken, and rice cake from...
Read moreWe came here on Friday night after searching for a Korean restaurant in Richmond that wasn't in the usual cluster. When we stepped in the door, there was only one other table occupied. The waitress asked us to put our name down but didn't explain why and we later found out it was because of contact tracing. There was a language barrier so she didn't explain to us right away what it was for. We thought it was a waitlist to be seated which confused us because the restaurant was empty.
She seated us and gave us a menu. Service was essentially non-existent as we poured our own tea and laid out our own utensils. The only service was bringing us our food. That's alright. However, the food was not good. We ordered the bulgogi udon and the seafood pancake. I usually judge a Korean place by their haemul paejeon. This was one of the least tastiest pancakes I've ever had for $17. It was very thick and doughy, and only crispy on the top. I usually prefer the pancake to be crispy all around the exterior but this was likely impossible due to all the dough. The filling was also not generous as it mostly contained imitation crab meat. There was rarely any variety of seafood in there. No squid, no mussels, no shrimp, etc. There were alot of green onions. My girlfriend and family didn't like this either. The udon was alright but by no means delicious. It was almost a bit sour due to the udon sauce perhaps. I guess this was our fault for ordering a Japanese diah at a Korean restaurant. The side dishes were alright. I usually love Korean food but I didn't like this place at all. Would I go again? Perhaps but I'd likely try other Korean places first unless I had no choice. Parking in the...
