Gmen @ NanChuu Ramen 📍 8391 Alexandra Rd #1160, Richmond, BC V6X 3W5 Gmega Ramen (RCMP Special) This signature bowl is a true standout—bold, complex, and deeply satisfying. The broth boasts a rich umami base with a well-balanced spiciness that lingers pleasantly without overwhelming the palate. The Pork is tender and flavorful, complementing the hearty noodles perfectly. Every element of this dish reflects thoughtful preparation and culinary finesse. Rating: 10/10 TanTan Ramen A beautifully executed rendition of a classic. The sesame-based broth is creamy and aromatic, with just the right amount of heat. The noodles are perfectly springy, and the toppings are generous and well-integrated. A must-try for those who enjoy depth and warmth in their ramen. Rating: 10/10 Ebi Mayo A reliable and familiar appetizer. The shrimp are lightly battered and fried to a golden crisp, with a creamy mayo drizzle that offers a touch of sweetness. While enjoyable, it doesn’t venture far from what’s commonly found in other Japanese izakayas. Rating: 7/10 Takowasabi This dish offers a crisp texture and a mild wasabi kick, though the overall flavor profile is relatively subdued. It’s a decent accompaniment for those seeking something light, but it lacks the memorability or depth of the other offerings. Rating: 7/10 Chashu Don A satisfying and well-composed rice bowl. The chashu is tender and richly marinated, delivering excellent depth of flavor. Paired with warm rice and subtle seasoning, it’s a hearty and comforting dish that holds its own outside the ramen spotlight. Rating: 9/10 Service The service is warm and attentive. Staff are genuinely hospitable and demonstrate an efficient understanding of the menu and flow of a busy ramen house. Despite the high volume of patrons, they remain composed and accommodating. Rating: 9/10 Ambiance Gmen @ NanChuu captures the charm of a traditional Japanese ramen-ya. The space is compact and often bustling, but that only adds to its authenticity. It evokes the feeling of ducking into a cozy Tokyo alleyway for a quick, flavorful bowl. Rating: 8/10 Price Portions are generous—particularly the supersized ramen bowls—and the pricing is more than fair given the quality and execution. It’s a place where value meets craftsmanship. Final Verdict Gmen @ NanChuu Ramen remains one of Richmond’s premier destinations for authentic Japanese ramen. Each bowl is crafted with precision and passion, delivering both bold flavors and comforting warmth. While the appetizers are a bit more conventional, the ramen itself is nothing short of exceptional. Expect a crowd during peak hours, but rest assured—it’s worth the wait. Highly recommended for anyone in pursuit of a truly authentic ramen experience.

Ramen is very rich and tasty! Chicken Karage was cooked perfectly. Moist on the inside and crispy on the outside! The dipping sauce for the karage could have been better but that’s not a big deal for me. The location feels very cozy. Fast and friendly service too.

Best Ramen in Vancouver! And I would say by a pretty long shot. The wait can be pretty long for a seat at times because the location isn’t the biggest, you also want to make sure you come at a less busy time so that finding parking is not an issue (there are free limited parking spots available behind the restaurant that is shared with other restaurants next door in the same plaza). In terms of the actual food it is amazing! Like I said in my opinion the best ramen in Vancouver, my favourite outside of Japan. It is Tonkotsu based ramen therefor the broth is very thick and flavourful. I’ve tried every single ramen on the menu from Shio, Shoyu, Miso, Tan Tan, RCMP (Red Chili Miso Pepper), Trap Ramen and it’s all really good! They also have a wide range of soups for everyone to enjoy. Their dinner menu is composed of pork based tonkotsu ramen while their lunch menu is light chicken based broth soup but they have the Tan Tan (peanut flavoured tonkotsu broth) if you prefer. I love that they switch it up from lunch to dinner and they’re both delicious but I prefer the traditional pork based stuff. Even if you’re not in the mood for ramen they have a pretty big menu of “other stuff”, other Japanese dishes that you can enjoy that ranges from appies to almost full sized meals. They also have a pretty awesome a little pricey drink menu. My go-to is usually a Shoyu or RCMP ramen with extra noodle, Side of pork gyoza and an Asahi big boy, that’s the best! Love the service as well! Everyone is super friendly even the kitchen staff! You go often enough they’ll take the time to remember you and treat you very very well. Say hi to Izumi-san for me, she’s one of the very sweet staff members there.

I went to the Ramen shop with my wife this evening and waited for a table for about half a hour. When we wrote down our names in the reservation book, we checked both the proper table and the bar table for meals. The waitress led us to a bar table even though there was a proper table available when it came to our turn. The proper table was then offered to a white couple who was behind us and had only been in the queue for 5 minutes. We requested for a transfer to a proper table as we saw a group of four paying their bill. The younger waitress indicated that it should be OK for the switch. However, two minutes later, an old (or middle-aged) waitress came and told us in a ridiculuosly rude manner that they will not change table for us in any case even there were proper tables available unless there was no one outside waiting for a table. Her face looked so fierce and her language was very rude as if we had done something really really bad and evil to the ramen shop.

We have been to many restaurants in Vancouver and have never experienced such level of service before. We've also been to Japan many times for vacation and we always recall the politeness, kindness and hospitality of the Japanese. When we went to some popular restaurants in Japan, we always opted for both proper and bar tables and the restaurant will offer us a bar table only when a proper one is not available. The poor attitude of this old lady really damaged the good image and reputation of the nation.

We ended up leaving the shop and went to another restaurant nearby where we were well served and had fantastic food for dinner. Anyone looking for decent food and good services in a comfortable place should never go to...
