Delicious Premium Hot Pot Place with an Awesome Atmosphere! 🐉
My friends and I decided to try out this hot pot chain on a rainy Friday night and it did not disappoint. From the beautiful ancient Chinese palace interior to the delicious menu items, this hot pot place is definitely one of the best we've eaten at in Richmond. 🔥
The quality and taste of the broths here are quite good, we really enjoyed their spicy broth. Even though it was spicy it added a depth of flavor to their quality meats which made it addictive. However, one of my Chinese friends had to stop eating it or he will get a visit from Dr. Johnny Sins the next day. 👨⚕️
Meat quality here is also bomb. Even when we accidentally overcook them a few times, they still tasted delicious. The Shrimp Paste was also really good and we even had one of the servers make the shrimp balls for us. We also ordered different varieties of beef cuts from premium to cheaper selections - they all tasted amazing...again, I think this is partly due to their amazing broth base! 🐄🦐
The Chinese donuts were also pretty good especially when dipped into the broth for a few seconds and let it soak all that flavor. But our favorite sweet item would probably have to be the Brown Sugar Rice Cake, it was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside and oh so delicious. 🎂🍩
I also like their sauce bar station which is stocked well with fresh ingredients and kept clean. They also have napkins stocked under the table drawers which my friends and I did not know about until near the end lol.
They also had a cool performance of an ancient Chinese artist who could change masks really quick which we thought was pretty neat. 🎭
Now let's talk about pricing. If you're planning to eat here, then expect to pay a bit more compared to other hot pot places since you're paying for quality here - but I could honestly say it is worth it. With a small group of 3 we spent about $95 each including taxes/tips but we also ordered quite a bit of meat and NO vegetables as well as ordering x2 pitchers of beer which left us feeling very full. In comparison with another premium hot pot place like Dolar Shop, I feel like we spent about the same for both but with XiaoLongKan we got to order a bit more food items which made us very full. 💲💲💲
Customer service here is also really good. The servers are attentive and friendly. To top off our meal we were also given sweet chocolate ice cream! 🍫🍦
Honestly the only CON I could think of about this place is the parking lot...it's a fairly small parking lot so you might have to go around in circles a few times until you find someone leaving.
Overall, this is a fantastic hot pot place in Richmond with a unique interior and great atmosphere to visit with friends and family. We will definitely be coming back here to try out their lunch time AYCE.
TL;DR : I Highly Recommend this Hot Pot Place - it's unique, delicious and...
Read moreAfter being here and knowing how old this building is.... Holy heck cow, this hot pot place is AMAZING~!!
The whole building was renovated from an old Korean Restaurant, and before that was a sushi resturant and EVEN BEFORE THAT was an old chinese restaurant.... This place kept the whole exterior, but the inside IT IS FULLY CHANGED!! I loved how it felt like I travelled back in time to the Ming Dynasty and be eating with my friends in a modern time. I really love this a lot.
The other thing I have to talk about is the service of this place. It is so out of the ordinary too. They give the full experience the first step into the door. I could not believe how they treat their customers, it felt like I was an emperor of China. On top of that, while you wait there will be entertainment for the customers. It is just a HOOT!
Then when you are seated, you go to a private room with you and your friends. The tables are LARGE mahjong tables with a huge hole in the middle for your hot pot. On top of that, there was a lot of space for you and your friends, and the seats are the true Chinese wooden chairs, hard and stable.
So.. usually when you think of GREAT SERVICE, the food is just going to be subpar right? WELL NOT THIS PLACE!!! The food here is just extravagant. They offer tons of various types of soup bases too, and tons of various dishes! Maybe it was the baijou that is speaking to me that night, but the food is just EMMACULATE! They offer all types of meats, cuts and on top of that all the various types of food you can get!! Because it is a hot pot place, the sauce bar is filled with all types of sides and sauces that you can get everywhere. On top of that, there are unlimited amounts of fruits that you can get too, all cut and sliced for easy eating.
At the end of the night, and your dining experience, you can ask for an ice cream. And from what I hear, they change every other month, and the one I got on this visit was Matcha. It was extremely dark flavoured of green tea and the creaminess really cuts through too.
I have to come back...
Read moreFood was good, especially the spicy soup base, but services could be a lot better. After ordering food through their website using the QR code we wanted to add 2 more beers. After our food had come and we were mid say through my mom realized the beers hasn't come yet, so we asked a server for help ( it actually told us quite a while before we were able to get a server's attention), he said he will go check for us, but never came back. So we had to find another server, she promptly checked our orders, and told us she will be bringing the 2 beers over, and she did. Around 8:30 PM (our reservations were at 630 pm but we were seated until around 645 to 650) we were told there were others waiting and if they could clear the table (we we all mid eating fruits to end our meal at this point). We said sure thinking he will only be clearing our plates. He then proceeds to dump our remaining sauce and contents from our bowls into the hotpot infront of us and some spicy soup base actually splashed out on to the table and on my clothes. Everything was done very roughly and clumsy making us all feel uncomfortable. The sauce bar was messy and often empty. Having experienced hotpot at Hai De Lao and Dolar hotpot, we were extremely disappointed with the service at...
