White Spot Ackroyd — Restaurant in Richmond

Whitespot used to be a decent joint for burgers and shake. The short version: the food was extremely awful.

We ordered a basic Legendary burger and a Bacon Bigger Burger. Legendary is just the sauce with nothing else so the beef patty has to carry it. Sadly it was a dry, thin patty with little flavor. The whole thing reminds me of a slightly bigger Buddy Burger from A&W (even the break has a similar texture), which is a value burger at under 2 bucks, but Buddy Burger is much tastier. You think I exaggerate? Go order a Legendary and buy a Buddy Burger right after. 6x the price and 3x worse.

The Bacon burger had good bacon but the whole burger was unremarkable.

The pickles that came with the burgers... Awful. I have come to expect good pickles from diner/restaurant burgers. By which I mean fresher, crunchier, thicker pieces of pickle. What they had was a thin, soggy slice. A slightly worse version of McD's pickles. Unbelievable.

We had salad with the burgers and a sweet potato fries added on. Hate to bring up McD's again but they have way better salads. The Caesar salad look like something you throw together at home when you have no time. I wish I had taken pictures. The greens salad, there was almost no dressing. There were no variety to the greens, no tomatoes or something with color like peppers to balance the colors. This is worse than something you make at home. Again, wish I had taken pictures. But you can go try it if you don't believe me. I don't want to bring them business but you really have to try it to believe it. If I had read this review I would think "it can't be THAT bad" and dismiss this as some stupid rant by some guy on the internet. But I kid you not, it was that bad.

Sweet potato fries... sauce was good. Fries unremarkable. BUT, there were some uncooked fries... I bit on one and it was like biting on a raw carrot. Unbelievable.

Other people would probably have called the waitress and complained. I didn't. No need to give the servers a hard time. I was so disappointed I just wanted to finish, leave, and never go back.

Used to be a good burger/milkshake place. I don't know what happened to it, and I don't know if this is the way other locations are, but I am in no rush...

Came here before, staff are all attentive and nice. But today on Sunday Feb 6 2022, we came at 3:50 for the brunch, and we asked the hostess at the time if we can still have brunch and she says yes. She tells us to wait 8 mins and thanks us, there were many seats at the time and 80% of the seats were vacant, two people came in front of us and the new hostess just came in and seated them before us, we were still waiting for our hostess and waited a solid 25 minutes to be seated. The new hostess apollogizes for her actions because the hostess that said she would seat us actually went off shift and forgot about us. The new hostess didn't need to apologize and she was very nice and understanding. We were then seated and our waiter was attentive, we ordered our brunch but then he comes back telling us that the kitchen have switched to Dinner as it is already 3:20 by the time we were seated. If the hostess didn't forget about us we wouldn't of wasted 30 minutes of our life. Terrible service from the hostess. For Whitespot's management, the hostess got off her shift at 3:00 and was a young asian women. Terrible service and wasted our time as we were in a time crunch. Will never be coming to this specific whitespot, such a shame she represents this place as all the other servers/hostesses etc...

Came here on Tuesday May 16, 2023 at around 6pm. It was not that busy. Waited 10 minutes before the server even acknowledged my existence. Food was good. However, I then asked for the bill after I finished eating and the server just forgot. After waiting over 10 minutes, I went up to the counter to get my bill but no one was there. I almost left without paying. The server came back and saw that I was impatient but took her sweet time chatting with her colleague before finally giving me the bill. I wanted to give a low tip but unfortunately that option was not even there for me.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that I experienced poor service at this location. A few months ago, I experienced poor service from a different server at the same location. I have gone to many different White Spots and the service at this particular White Spot is miles worse than any other location. You can tell because the other 1-star reviews here are generally complaining about the service and not the food. It's unfortunate because the food here is actually good. But better to go to the Richmond Centre location instead. If management wants to make things better, then they should get rid of their current servers and replace them with people who will actually work hard...
