I would strongly recommend this restaurant if you are near the skytrain in Central Richmond. Their chicken teriyaki rice plate was delicious. I loved when the staff echoed the orders which was so unique. The staff was very friendly. High turnover makes me trust the food here. The tea and tufu miso that came with my meal was so Yummy! I saw the huge portion size of sushi being served at other tables and the portion size of the hot food was great, see pics.

Some improvements should be done regarding the following constructive feedback: I should have said I wanted it saucy when I placed my order. LoL. The rice plate could use some more not watery teriyaki sauce to finish the rice with. The salad came with something like a white ranch dressing instead of a clear japanese vinegrette. The customer should be given the option to choose the type of dressing or vinegrette. My friends prefered a lemon slice instead of an orange slice on the salad for dinner. The ambiance was not authentic japanese but looked like a fast food joint. The service was great, eating area was clean, the waiter was knowledgeable and I did not smell anything fishy even though sushi was being prepared nearby. The yam tempura was 6 slices of white yam, cut into thin slices under 1/8" thickness, each slice was inconsistent and it was overpriced. Not good value for money and I hope this will be addressed to create value for customers. I pulled out the thin sliced yam that looked like a potatoe chip but I was left with more tempura batter than yam. Some spots in the tempura batter was raw because the oil was too hot. The quality of the food leaving the kitchen should have been checked before serving. The chef and food prep staff should be retrained. I am used to the 6 slices of 1/2" thick cut bright color yam not white yam at other japanese restaurants which is better value and cost less than $10. The hot meals should come with an option of a tempura side which will give a competitive edge. I hope this...

I'm sure that Tokyo Joe's has some good sushi because of the generally positive reviews, but what I ordered was pretty disappointing.

I ordered the TJ combo 2 and the chicken karage. The TJ combo 2 comes with a dynamite role and some salmon and tuna sashimi.

Let me start with the dynamite roll. This roll was cut so thick that not even a cobra could unhinge it's jaw wide enough to bite the roll. Believe me, I understand that dynamite roles are larger than normal roles, however they are usually cut slightly thinner than your average roll. This was probably 2.5 inches tall and 3 inches wide, no exaggeration. This was a challenge and absolute mess to eat.

The sashimi was generally pretty good, the fish was fresh, although the pieces weren't complexly cut so that I had a set of 3 that were still attached.

The worst offender was the 'karage'. This is not chicken karage, this was a chicken wing smothered in a sweet soy dressing with lemon. Call me crazy, but chicken karage is usually boneless so you can eat it using your chopsticks, and has a crispy, almost tempura like experior. These were your classic, low quality, chicken wing that you'd get at a dive bar. Needless to say, soggy and sweet chicken wings are very disappointing when you are expecting a crunchy, savory chicken karage.

I think Tokyo Joe's can be really good, they obviously can put a roll together pretty well and they have nice ingredients, excluding the 'karage', but my experience on a whole was leaving a lot...

I always visit this sushi place and to hear such negative reviews because of a silly article is outrageous. The owner always provides fast and efficient service and I am always blown away by the quality of the food and the service. I walk in, I feel welcomed by the friendly staff who were eager to help me decide on what to order. The sushi itself is some of the best I've ever had. Each piece was made with care and attention to detail, with the perfect balance of flavors and textures. The fish was incredibly fresh and melted in my mouth, while the rice was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. One thing that really stood out to me was the creativity and variety of the menu. They had a great selection of classic rolls as well as more unique offerings like a spicy tuna and black dragon rolls that had just the right amount of kick. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also great. I feel like I could really relax and enjoy my meal without feeling rushed or crowded. Overall, I would highly recommend this sushi place to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal. The food is top-notch, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is perfect for a night out with friends or a date with your significant other. I will come back to this place every...

Here's a nice review for Tokyo Joe's, highlighting their sashimi and sushi, affordability, free parking, customer service, and selection: A fantastic spot for fresh and delicious Japanese food, Tokyo Joe's is a true gem. I've been on the hunt for a place that serves top-quality sashimi and sushi without breaking the bank, and Tokyo Joe's has exceeded all my expectations. The sashimi is incredibly fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and sliced to perfection. The sushi rolls are equally impressive, with a wide variety of creative and classic options to choose from. Each piece is crafted with care, and you can truly taste the quality of the ingredients. Beyond the incredible food, the experience is made even better by the genuinely friendly and attentive staff. The customer service is excellent, making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door. To top it all off, the prices are incredibly affordable for the quality and portion sizes you receive. Plus, the convenience of free parking is a huge bonus. If you're a fan of authentic Japanese cuisine and appreciate a wide selection, great service, and great value, Tokyo Joe's is the place to go. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back!

Came here after looking at the reviews and was craving sushi. The food arrived not even five minutes after ordering, probably because they start making it while we were still ordering. We didn't mind since we were starving, but at times it did feel a bit rushed. The food was... average at best. Portions were big, so no complaint there. Worth it for the price. The tuna sashimi was still a little frozen. Okay service, but not enough to warrant a mandatory 15% tip. It was our first time there so I was taken aback, but since we were in a rush I just paid and left. Looking back, I really wished I had argued about that. It seems wrong to enforce a mandatory tip when the customer should get to decide how much to tip. Like the other reviewers said, I wouldn't have minded if the prices were a little higher to offset the cost. The icing on the cake was when the server cheerfully told me that the tip was already included in the price, like they were doing me a favor. I generally tip 15% anyways, but that experience really left a bad taste in my mouth and I don't think I'll come back again, especially since there are better places for sushi that lets me choose how much to tip.
