Was looking for a local craft experience for my first time in Rimouski. We picked La Baraque because they had an awesome looking menu. We love the fact that the street was closed down for a pedestrian walkway and we could hear music playing. The vibe was good. When we got there, we were asked if we were there to eat or drink and we said both and were also immediately informed it was an hour wait for burgers. We were told other things would come out faster- no problem- I wasn’t committed to the burgers.

We were seated at about 8:40. It took until 8:54 before we were even acknowledged at the table. We asked to see the menu for beers and were told to scan the QR. When I mentioned that it was too faded to scan we were told we could go up and look at the menu by the bar. No problem. We took a picture and when we realized 4 were from Pit Caribou, we ordered 3 flights with the remaining 12 options as we’d been to Pit Caribou yesterday (outstanding experience btw). It was 9:16 by the time our drinks arrived. The place was busy but not all the tables were full. We asked at the time of ordering (9:07pm) if it was still an hour for burgers. We were told 40 minutes but that others things would come out much faster. We opted tor the Mac fries and after asking if the fish was fresh and being told yes, a fish and chips. The food came out at 9:44pm. 3 minutes faster than ordering a burger.

The Mac fries were dead ass cold. The bottom of the basket had a bit of mild warmth, but it had sat for a long time. The fish in the fish and chips were dark, as were the fries. Like when the oil hasn’t been filtered or refreshed nearly often enough.

At this point I was done. I sent my fries back and asked if the manager was in and was told the one of the owners was in. He refused to come out to speak to us. But we did see him come out of the kitchen and head to the patio purposely avoiding us. The server gave the excuse he doesn’t speak English well. My travelling companion is francophone even though you can’t tell when she speaks English.

I have travelled over 200 craft breweries between Ontario, Quebec, PEI, Newfoundland, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Florida. I live in the Niagara region. I know busy and I know tourism. This was an overall extremely poor experience capped off by an owner who refused to speak with us and will, undoubtedly based on other reviews, make excuses. The server tried. He apologized, he comped one flight and my fries.

So, in a 10 day journey that included brewery visits in Magog, Coaticook, Sherbrooke, Windsor, and the Lévis areas, we are left on the lowest of possible lows.

There is opportunity...

The place is great but the food not so great. We wait over 1 1/2 hours for our food, waitress didn't come see us if we need anything. I was disappointed of my plate. I ask a question regarding something on the menu. I toke the plate with 6 wings ( they were delicious), 6 nuggets, 6 sausage ( waitress said is with bacon and cheese arounded but guess what no bacon was like thin paper around it), pickle ( small sweet pickle not deep fried pickle) and some pieces of cheese on the side. Is really not what the girl explains.

My aunt toke the fish plate with smoke salmon and smoke trout. But is not serve with fries and they have no rice . My aunt said is all cold i didn't order this. The waitress reply is serve like this have to be cokd . My aunt received with kind of craker with a dip, and sweet pickle and other stuff that was really vinegar and 2 small small pieces of fish. The girl should explain better specifically was our first time there.

My mame toke crab burger but she said didn't taste nothing.

My daughter ask for gravy she didn't what we meet about that. Poutine gravy she responded we don't heat just small amount because we will waste the rest.

My friend toke the nachos look delicious but was too cook because was really dry went she received.

For our first we...

Belle petite brasserie sympathique.

Portion super!
