I was at Maude’s on March 25. I ordered the Ahi Tuna salad. Firstly, it was not lightly seared as Ahi is supposed to be. It was over-cooked and the ends were cooked completely through. And it did not have a good taste or nice smooth texture. About 1 hour after eating I started to feel not right. I arrived home just after 9pm and became violently ill (extreme watery diarrhea and vomiting) for the next 4 or so hours. It was severe, brutal and scary. Afterwards I experienced painful tightening cramps in my muscles which I am experiencing still the day after. And my body hurts. I had to take a day off work to recover and try to rehydrate. And I have not yet been able to eat anything. I believe the tuna I was served was not fresh or very close to being not safe to serve. The sudden onset of my symptoms are in line w eating fish that is high in omegas which become toxic when the fish is not properly stored and/or fresh. I believe the kitchen staff just rinsed off the tuna steak that was probably not safe to serve or close to so should have erred on the side of caution and not served it. Customers should expect a high level of care and diligence from kitchen staff. I don’t think I will ever eat at Maude’s again and I definitely do not recommend it to anyone, especially seafood. Maude’s needs to investigate and address this immediately w their staff. This should include all menu items that have the potential to make customers very ill.
Also, it was so loud that our group could barely hear each other and had to yell in order the be heard. Maybe avoid this place on trivia nights unless u are participating in the trivia. If you prefer a quiet setting, this is not the place to go. We didn’t have a nice experience.
Update: Mar. 27/25: in response to Maude’s reply: it was definitely the tuna that made me ill. All my symptoms align with having eaten not fresh fish and w food poisoning. I do not recommend eating at Maude’s especially after the GM brushed off my experience as being anything other than the possibility I was served not fresh fish. The symptoms happened within an hour after eating the their toxic fish. Not sure why the GM should feel insulted when a customer writes about the their experience and the appearance of the restaurant’s food; that is why customers have a review platform, to share their experiences w other possible customers. The GM should learn from one customer’s experience to ensure this is not the next customer’s experience. This GM wrote me privately and stated “…our turnover of food product is high, so food is unlikely to spoil.” Unlikely, maybe but not impossible. And just bc others didn’t report getting ill doesn’t mean they didn’t get ill and doesn’t mean it is impossible for one person to get ill.
And as for the noise level, I did acknowledge that we did not pick the best night to go, so clearly the GM does not pay attention to detail in both food or atmosphere; they did not read or understand my suggestion on which is a good night to visit the pub. Maude’s response is dismissive and insulting and frankly rude. I’ll make sure I let people know never to eat there especially w this GM...
Read moreHad a really disappointing meal here June 2018. Four of us dined, three of whom had the burger special, 1 beef, 2 chicken. Beef was reported to be bland. One of the chicken burgers was quite good, with a piece of chicken breast that was thick and juicy. The second chicken burger was honestly maybe 1/4" thick. The flattest thinnest chicken burger ever. With a fairly large bun and tomato slices, you could not even taste chicken. When it was brought to the attention of the server, she went and discussed it with the kitchen, and the response was that everything gets weighed, it may be thinner, but it must be of a larger diameter. It was not. Somewhere along the way, someone screwed up and a piece of chicken that was not intended to be a burger slipped through the cracks and made its way to the table disguised as a burger. In fact, slipping through a crack would have been entirely possible for this wafer of chicken.
In the server's defence, she did offer to have another one made for me. Unfortunately other members of our party had to be elsewhere shortly after dinner, and we couldn't wait for something else to be cooked. I declined to get a replacement, and stated that the kitchen should be made aware of the inconsistency.
The side dishes were of adequate portion size, and the 4th non-burger entree at the table was reportedly quite good. The Caesars were excellent.
Since the service was good, two entrees and the cocktails were good, I'm being generous and giving this review 3 stars. However, the handling of the chicken situation was poor. I did not appreciate the opinion of the kitchen that I was somehow mistaken, when everyone, even the server could see and agreed that there was a huge difference between the two supposedly same burgers. I'd actually prefer to give this 2.5 stars but half stars are not an available option.
I have eaten here before and know that they are capable of considerably better. However, based on this experience, I'm really not sure that I would go back. A few bucks off of the bill at the end of the meal could have made a difference here, but nothing was done beyond making the comment that my perception of the difference in the two burgers was wrong. Really wish I had...
Read moreThird time ...still unlucky. Wings are great, service and trying talking to the woman manager is a compete waste of time. The first time I ever stepped in to Maudes was in the liquor store, 2013. Because I was on two crutches with zero weight bearing on one leg ( shattered it skiing) I took my son (underage) so he could help carry out for me. The girl refused to sell me my two bottles of wine because I had my son with me, I sent him out and she still refused me service, even though I explained my injury. I went down the street to Liquor Plus and asked if my son could come in and help me, it was not a problem. So I still drive there to this day even though it is further than Maudes. That was 2013, fast forward to two weeks ago. We went in for wing night (the wings are great but, it stops there) We had the same waitress this evening as we did then. It was hard to get service from this waitress then, but tonight was a 'real' pleasant experience. She stood and visited with the two women sitting next to us and chatted with them for ages back and forth a few times, meanwhile we are sitting waiting to order. So we started looking at her hoping to get her attention and maybe some type of service. This is her response to the 2 women she was visiting " I better go serve those two women they are staring at me". She said it loud enough although she is already loud, so we would hear. this is how you get service from this unpleasant and rude waitress. Now, there are some very hard working people in there as well, we just kept getting the bad one. So.... we went out on a limb to talk to the manager. Her response when I told her that the server was just visiting with her friends instead of waiting on her tables. The manger's response was "Oh those aren't friends , they are regulars and they were complaining about you putting your face in their food and she told us not to come on Wednesdays, it has different crowd of people on this night. WTH is this that? We never so much as left our table. She told us to come on Saturdays, the wings were $10.00. It is obvious that rudeness has gone unchecked at Maudes. So, if you are looking for a manager to talk to don't waste your time, she is as incompetent as...
