R Bar — Restaurant in Saint John

This is an underrated bar. Wendy, the bartender on Fridays, is a joy. She will remember you if you go often enough! Fran (the regular karaoke host) is probably one of the best I have ever encountered, so encouraging, down to earth and has a great voice!! The place is pretty much a dive bar but I feel that is part of the charm for this place! Drinks are cheap on the bright side, especially for the area. The people inside are a hit or miss, sometimes it is mostly young and hip, other times there are very few people and then there are times where there is a mix of old and young. You never know what you're gonna get but if you want karaoke this is the spot on Fridays!! Saturdays are not as good and wouldnt recommend someone checking it out for the first time to go on a Saturday unless you are with a big crew and are already a few...

I dont know the name of the host for karaoke last night but she was horrible to us. Idk if shes homophobic or just favors st john locals but we were in town from Montreal for one night only (and i told her this) and i just wanted to sing one Lisa Leblanc song since we were in New Brunswick and she just kept ignoring me and my girlfriend and passing people in front of us, literally til the bar closed. In all seriousness, the bartenders were great. The young guy, whose name I didn't get, was an encyclopedia of pop culture. And the young female bartender the next night was multi-talented; bartender, addictions counselor, psych-ward Orderly, bodyguard. Good times.
