I guess I should have read the reviews before venturing here. Certainly won't be rushing back.
I ordered the barbecue chicken with mashed potatoes. My partner had dry ribs with mashed potatoes. Can anyone say dry?
The tossed salad was good. Fresh and crisp with a good selection of dressings. The garlic bread was something else. Dry thick toast with maybe a little garlic powder on it. No hint on a garlic spread being used. Strange aftertaste.
My chicken, two thin pieces of thin chicken breast, obviously cooked earlier and now reheated (probably in microwave) and slathered in a barbecue sauce. The sauce was good, sweet with a little tang, but it did nothing to help the dry hard pieces of chicken that was tough to cut and difficult to chew. Too much time in the microwave. Portions size was a little lacking for a $26 meal.
The mashed potatoes were terrible. They were obviously cooked and mashed as they were a little lumpy, so wasn't out of a box. But, extremely dry and almost a black non-appetizing colour. The dark brown gravy was equally terrible, with a very sour aftertaste.
The dry ribs looked okay but I didn't try them. My partner said they were good. You could see they were a commercial prepared variety, cooked from frozen.
Lastly the vegetables. The only thing in the meal that was moist, mush from over-cooking. Large chunks of cauliflower, a few slices of carrot and something else I was unable to identify.
This was Friday evening. An older crowd. I think five tables were occupied. Obviously the VLTs keep this restaurant afloat.
Restaurant is clean. Almost warehouse like with large tables, making it difficult to talk. You have to talk loudly and it echoes for...
Read moreWhile I always try to support local restaurants, our recent visit to David’s Restaurant in Saskatoon left us disappointed. My mother and I seated ourselves, which was fine, but right away we were struck by the loud environment—particularly the booming speakers and swearing from patrons at the bar. Given that the restaurant offers a kid’s menu, the atmosphere didn’t feel very family-friendly.
When our server eventually came to the table, she seemed disoriented and struggled to answer basic questions about the menu and promotions. Her demeanor and slow, confused speech made us question whether she was in the right frame of mind to be serving. We were eventually brought water, and I ordered a tea, but when I went to stir it, the spoon was visibly dirty with crusted residue inside the bowl of it—clearly not properly cleaned.
That, combined with the loud music and sticky, unkempt menus, left me feeling too uneasy to stay. We decided to leave before even touching our drinks. Out of politeness, we left a small tip for the server, which in hindsight probably wasn’t necessary, but we wanted to exit respectfully.
I hope the restaurant is able to tighten up its cleanliness, staff training, and overall customer experience. Saskatoon has many great eateries, and I’d love to see David’s rise to...
Read moreI have never eaten nor ordered from here before. I considered calling in but figured the response would be that’s how we always make things. Or deaf ears. It was atrocious! I’m sorry. We got a shrimp scampi meal and chicken with Greek sauce. The scampi was strong with lemon which I love lemon but this was tasting of almost only lemon. I realized there’s lemon pepper in it. I’m sorry I love lemon pepper but not in a scampi. Very much just liquid. Didn’t see garlic. No flouring. Taste of butter. Shrimp was small and overcooked to being tough and chewy. The soup wasn’t bad but spilled all over the bag. Fries tasted like reheated fries. Not just got cold while being delivered. Fairly salty. Gravy was fine. Chicken was good. Though I ordered the one with a sauce and there was no sauce. Baked potato was two tiny potatoes but they were ok. A sneeze of green onions but ok for sour cream and bacon. Veggies Al dente with a Greek taste. Not bad. But the ceasar salad!!!! Don’t do it!!! $4 extra. It was HORRIBLE! It’s the dressing. Can taste mayo. My friend says mustard. Has a mild kick. Strong zing from possible mustard and vinegar. We paid enough so choked down what we could. I tried removing sauce. I couldn’t eat it all. It was not good. I don’t know if this pics give it justice. ...
