Disappointing and Repeatedly Unwelcoming Experience
I’m writing this review on behalf of myself, my friends, and family members who have all had similar negative experiences at Grainfields in Saskatoon. While the food and service from servers have exceeded expectations, the experience at the front of house continues to be deeply uncomfortable.
There is an older woman who works as the hostess/cashier, and unfortunately, her attitude is consistently unwelcoming. From the moment you walk in, there's no smile, no eye contact, and no greeting. Her body language is tense, her tone is abrupt, and she’s openly complained — loudly — in front of customers and staff alike. On my most recent visit, she grumbled about the state of the tables and expressed that she did not know where to seat me, all while avoiding eye contact and offering no sense of hospitality. The tables were not in dissaray, people had JUST left. Staff was working fast to clean tables. There was no business. No visible reason for her to dramatize her situation. This wasn’t a one-off; it has happened several times, and I’ve heard the same feedback from multiple people.
When you’re spending $20–$30 a person, plus tip, it’s fair to expect a welcoming environment. Walking into a restaurant should feel like walking into someone’s home — friendly, warm, and inviting. Instead, this particular staff member makes the atmosphere uncomfortable and tense.
I sincerely hope management addresses this issue (immediately) because experiences like this are driving regular customers away. If this continues unchecked, I wouldn’t be surprised to see business suffer as a result. A small change in attitude could make a huge difference. I already have one foot...
Read moreI love going here!! The food is always fantastic and most of the time the service is fantastic!! Saturday evening however was not great service we waited to be seated then the waitress walks away without asking us if we would like anything to drink then comes back 5 minutes later with water for everyone and takes our order so we were ok with how things were going then we waited for over 45 minutes for our food it was fantastic not cold despite knowing it had sat for a bit then the waitress asks if she can refresh my bfs drink so yeah that'd be great and we ask for peanut butter and raspberry jam as well.... she comes back with the jam and no drink and then walks away so I say where's the drink she ignores me and walks to the back and returns with the drink. We are almost completely done eating when she comes to ask how everything is then disappears into the back the hostess joins her complete front end is vacant!! Could have been robbed and no one would have known until the end of the night cash out. We go to wait by the till for our bill to leave and wait for at least 10 mins then another couple joins us and waits until the other lady goes to the back to say people are waiting at the till. At which point our waitress comes out and says enjoy your evening. I was less than impressed with the service and I frequently come here on a regular basis. It was pretty disappointing service and definitely...
Read moreThis is a new Grainfields Family Restaurant just off the Circle Drive in the northern part of Saskatoon, SK. Very nice and open with booths within an enclosure. Also they have a large room when you come in that you can reserve for large crowds for privacy like a large family group or a breakfast meeting without interrupting the whole restaurant. The food was excellent and very tasty. But what surprised me was this young waiter who served us. Four or five groups came in behind us. He had other customers seated and bringing out their food. He came up to us and explained what was going on.He took us to our tables, brought us all ice water and then brought us coffee and took our orders. Within 15 minutes we had our food and refills of coffee. The young man was overwhelmed of all the people coming in but made his plans and it went very well. He was great. Hats off to him. The food...
