Red Chillis Selkirk — Restaurant in Selkirk

To start, the food is pretty good. I don’t wanna be a Karen about this experience and I was nice and didn’t yell or scream or cuss anyone out over this. I ordered wings but found a SCREW in them. After talking to the staff I was told my next meal would be comped. Totally fine. After calling back I was told they would only comp the wings which irked me because I had been told different before. After talking AGAIN it was decided whatever I ordered next the cost of the previous order would be taken off and I would pay the difference. Sounds good. After showing up to pay they changed what they had told me on the phone an hour earlier and said only wings would be comped. The manager then insinuated that I put the screw in there just to get free food. I can afford the food. That’s not an issue. But to basically be accused of planting a screw in there and being told that there is NO way that it could have come from the restaurant was less than ideal. All this to say there’s little to no communication between staff and management which made things difficult for me as a customer. After all this they comped our meal but the hassle and back and forth of being told this and that made it a rough experience. Again, the wings, pizza, poutine all taste good. Like the foods decent. But the staff made the ordeal just way tougher than it...

We were seated in a dark section of the restaurant away from everyone, took 10 minutes to get our menu. Where we were seated there were large balloon decorations with dangling ribbons that were continuously bothering our friend by being perfectly in his headspace. Just poor planning for seating and wall decor.

They didn't have the drink selection we asked for (tea and pepsi, provided Fanta orange and diet coke) didn't offer other options either.

We put our order in and the waitress was very sweet and confirmed our comfort spice levels. She said it would take 20 minutes tops.

We waited an hour for our food while another table was seated, given their drinks, order taken, and even had top ups on their drinks. We finished our water and had tried to flag her down for a refill but the staff disappeared. Our order was simpler too, samosas and naan bread to be brought out first, then assorted main meal items.

We ended up walking out after waiting exactly an hour. We tried to let them know we were leaving but there was no one up front and no one through the plastic curtain behind the counter from where we could see (standing at the counter).

Was really excited to try their food but I think next time we'll be going to the Regent location to try it for...

As huge Indian food fans, we thought we’d give the newly opened Red Chilli a try tonight. It was excellent! We’ve tried nearly every Indian restaurant in Winnipeg and Selkirk’s Red Chilli is now in my top three. We ordered our typical Navratan Korma, Aloo Gobhi and Butter Chicken with Naan and Lachhan Parantha - our benchmarks. The spices and flavours of all of them were very tasty. The only thing I wish was a littler better was choice of veggies used in the Korma, but the flavours of the cream sauce were top notch. We were there a little early for Saturday dinner (5pm). There were a couple other tables and a fairly steady stream of take out. Just one server for the most part who was kept quite busy. Hopefully there is more wait staff for busier times. Our food arrived in a timely fashion, all at once and nice and hot. If you enjoy Indian food, do yourself a favour and give this place a try. It seems the negative reviews about food quality and service are for the previous restaurant, so please ignore them - they almost kept us away but soooo glad they didn’t. Can’t wait to return and try all kinds of other items...
