Roxi's Uptown Cafe — Restaurant in Selkirk

Stopped there this morning on our way home from a camping trip. Was excited to see they serve breakfast until 3pm, as we attempted to have breakfast at restaurants in other towns, but they were all closed. We arrived at Roxie's right around 11am, and were seated in the restaurant area. The person at the front counter who greeted us, and told us to grab a seat anywhere, brought us menus, and asked us if we wanted anything to drink while we waited to order our food. She brought me coffee, and my two nephews drinks, and said our server will be with us soon. Well, I guess I have a different idea of what soon means, because we waited right around 20 minutes for her to even acknowledge we were there. I was becoming very impatient and irritated when I seen her take orders from 2 people who arrived 10 minutes after us, and she still hadn't even acknowledged we were there. We were seated right beside the computer where she has to enter everyone's order after she's taken them, so she definitely knew we were there. Maybe familiar faces get served priority. From the time we arrived at Roxie's to the time our food was on the table, was around 45-50 minutes. That's highly unacceptable if you ask me. The food was very good, and the value for the dollar is hard to be beat here, but the service is next to non existent. We actually got better service from the front counter lady (the one who greeted us) and the server taking care of the outside patio, than we did our own server. After my experience, and even though the food was good, fairly priced, and perfectly cooked, I don't see myself attempting...

I gave a one because I couldn’t give a zero. I ordered takeout from Roxie’s and my food was so soggy it was not edible and I had to throw it away. My fries were so wet the crust peeled off and my wrap was wet. I called to explain the situation and they told me they would call me back to let me know what they could do for me. It’s been two weeks and I did not receive a call so I phoned them myself. I explained how i could not eat my food and the lady told me that i should not expect the same quality for take out food as sit down food. She also proceeded to tell me that because it’s take out it gets soggy and that there is nothing they can do about it. I then said that I understand the food may not be as fresh being take out but that my food should be edible. I also said if they tell me it’s going to be 30 minutes for my food to be ready and I show up early I’d like to think my food would not get soggy in that amount of time. All she had to say over and over again is that I shouldn’t expect good quality food if I’m ordering take out and they are not doing anything for me. So in the future if you order take out, it is most likely going to be soggy and they will do nothing for you and say it won’t be the same quality. I have been a customer for years, and will not be going back if this is the quality I should expect...

I have always had nothing but good experiences here, but my last one was terrible. I came in to order a takeout order after the lunch rush. The restaurant was mostly empty and I walked up to the woman at the till. She did not look up from her screen for at least three minutes as I stood in front of her. When she did finally look up, she asked me brusquely if I was coming or going. I told her I wanted to make a takeout order, which quite obviously annoyed her. She asked what I wanted, and I ordered a taco wrap and a piece of cheesecake to go. In the middle of paying, she grabbed another waitress and told her to "finish this". The second waitress got my cheesecake ready and then looked at me, confused, as I sat down to wait in the lobby. She came over after a few minutes and asked me if I wanted something else. I let her know i had ordered a to go order. I then waited 26 minutes for one taco wrap. I have never waited that long for a full meal when I have been seated in the restaurant when they were busy, never mind when the restaurant was only a quarter full. To top it all off, I got to listen to a few of the staff talk about how "f-ing drunk" they got the night before as I waited. It was a very disappointing experience, especially because I had gone out of my way to go to Roxis...
