Smitty's Restaurant & Lounge - Selkirk — Restaurant in Selkirk

Today, August 21 - 2024 at approximately 9:30pm I left the restaurant located in Main St. in Selkirk . A very nice person was our waiter “ at the begining “. I went there with my husband and my 9 years old son . The food was perfect and the service was good . My son asked for the menu kids that was a hamburger and included a dessert, he was not satisfied and he request to have another menu kids, but this time he wanted the pizza . My husband and I ordered wings . After my son finished his first dessert I ask the guy who was in charge of our table for the dessert that should have came with the second menu kids and he told if I was sure to have another one . I was surprised with that question and I thought I could be wrong so I asked him if it came a dessert and he said yes . Then I said yes please bring it here . A few minutes later we requested the bill and I told him in a funny way that he did not want me to take the dessert and he started a weird moment . He said he was tired , that it was very late and that he tried his best the whole time . I said yes , you did very good I just don’t think you should not make feel uncomfortable to any customer . He told me to stop , that he was so tired , and that he did not want my money ( tip ) , he opened his wallet and took some bills and and throw them in the table , at the same time he was saying just get out now !!! I will ask you to check the cameras to verify what I am saying . Everything in front of my son and he got so nervous. I was never treated like that in any other Smittys or any restaurant in the world. I could not ask his name as nobody else was there to support us. I was scared of him . I believe he might need some kind of emotional support as he was not acting normal . What a very bad experience . Please see the cameras...

Service is usually good other than the takeout container fiasco they had on wing nights where they wouldn't allow you to take your uneaten wings home. We are regular customers and noticed the quality of wings aren't as good on their wing nights as they are on the other nights. It's like they use totally different (lower quality) wings for wing nights that are way smaller and many have broken bones. When we go there on wing nights and have a couple orders of wings each and each of us get at least 3-4 broken wings in our orders of 18 wings. The broken bones can be sharp, I would recommend the kitchen avoid using that particular brand of wings. We also noticed the spinach dip has gotten smaller and is not a good value for the price anymore. Pizza and fries are good, staff is friendly and service is usually quick

Some stuff has improved but the biggest problem nowadays is the kitchen staff cant seem to keep up with other tables when they have a table or two with 6 or more people ordering. We have been there multiple times and it's the same thing each time. It seems like the staff spend all the time catering to those bigger tables and the end result is the service for all of the other people seems to suffer. This isn't a one time thing. If you walk into the lounge and see a big group, like a table of 10 or a couple tables of 6 you might as well expect a hour for your food or come back later. The last time we (which were only a table of two) waited of a hour for our wings and people who walked in 20 minutes after us got their food 10 minutes before us....

Update: the service was much better this time, charma did an awesome job and is a fantastic person. Unfortunately the food still had some issues, hashbrowns were much better as cubed option. Me and my wife ordered same big country breakfast where she got normal pieces of ham and I got the kids breakfast version. The manager on staff when I brought this to their attention gave me an excuse as to why this happened, said it was because they were slicing the ham by hand but never offered a fix like maybe one extra piece of ham or something. Seems like there is no consistency to this establishment. Hope for better practices in the future however I wont be back. Im told roxys is really good. Maybe ill try there.

Manager gave me a gift cert and I will update my review when I give another go at it but I actually had a disappointing breakfast with the family today. The server must have been having a bad day or didnt like the way I looked or something cause we didnt get drinks til 5 or 10 min after being seated and there was someone that came in right after us that got seated and had a drink withing a few minutes. Ordered my food and asked for some things crispy and eggs a certain way which I politely mentioned that they were not done correctly but was met with a complete lack of care or understanding. I generally am pleasant with people so I really hate when people are not at least a little pleasant back. Especially when you work in an industry that is customer based. Anyways hope the server has a better day and treats the rest of the day with a better...
