Country Mart is a cute little convenience store and bakery in the Kawarthas. I have been searching for the best butter tart in Ontario — and they were invented here, so the best one in the province is probably the best one in the world. You can see my thoughts on other good butter tarts in my other reviews. The butter tart at Country Mart is one of the best ones I've tried. What really stood out to me is the crust. It's thick, flaky, and very soft, much more than its counterparts from other bakeries. I much prefer the texture of this tart to the crusts of other butter tarts, so that significantly elevates the product here at Country Mart. The filling is also good. It has a pleasant texture, solid but also gooey, and with a very slight burnt taste that is very addictive. Overall I was very impressed, this unassuming bakery punches up with the best in Ontario. Congrats to the owner and staff on baking such an excellent tart!

I do a yearly butter tart tour with a friend and we're always looking for new places to stop. Don't let appearances deceive you! It looks like your old school roadside general store but inside are the most delicious butter tarts!

I think that it is safe to say from these images that I very much enjoyed their baked goods. Would highly recommend!

We arrived hoping to get a couple of hardy sandwiches & some provisions to take on our boat. There was only one person in the store looking to get a coffee. We waited for a few minutes expecting a greeting, but there was no greeting or acknowledgement. We finally interrupted after what seemed like an excessive amount of time and asked if we had anything already made. We were brushed off with a cursory comment of “ I have not had time to make anything “. Our boat is docked at The Buckhorn Marina all year, but we won’t be back. We owned a cafe and variety store in Peterborough and know how hard it is to make a decent living from it, but he will not ever get our...

This place is definitely overpriced for the size and quality of their tarts. I bought a coconut raspberry tart instead of a buttertart. What can I say besides gross. The pastry was sooooo gross. I almost needed a magnifier to find the raspberry and the tart size was small. The tart along with a 355ml pop almost $6. Really overpriced. They DO NOT display prices where the pastries are kept. I absolutely will not buy there again not only due to the poor yet expensive quality of the baked goods but also due to how rude the male is...
