Blue Water Sushi — Restaurant in Smithers

This is a pleasantly air conditioned restaurant with upbeat music playing quietly. A bar for drinks is in line with the service area and kitchen. Booths are separated for privacy and conversation but there are tables down the center for a dinner party gathering. The server Shelley attended as soon as we sat down and asked if we would like still water. She was very knowledgeable of all the menu and ingredients so we enjoyed talking with her briefly about local favorites. The menu has a great selection overall and the sushi servings are large portion. Chef and staff working in the front area of the restaurant have spotless workspace, bright clean uniforms and happy cooks having conversations with each other. I appreciate seeing happy staff and I am told they love their jobs so I congratulate your successes and wish you many also happy customers. This restaurant is 10 years open and well deserves to be popular, the food is blessed to be healthy for you because it looks like all is prepared with love, I was inspired to give a gift. There is a quaint kitchen store next door and I skipped over to purchase a sushi dish set. I asked to have it wrapped and then brought is back and presented it to my company. I highly recommend eating here , the heart of downtown Smithers and the area around is a lovely...

Overall good food and ambience; busy place in Smithers!

Sunomono salad: sour refreshing taste; definitely stimulating for the appetite and a good palette cleanser in between/after eating

War miso soup: such a good twist, and a heartier version of a regular miso soup. It has hints of sesame oil, chili oil, and chewy clear noodles

Spicy tuna bites: thinly breaded with cajun seasoning. The tuna did not smell or taste fishy. It’s not spicy. This was my partner’s favourite

Salmon delight “boat”: good serving size; good option if you want a well-balanced meal. It comes with a regular miso soup

Spicy sushi combo: the tuna nigiri is surprisingly fresh! And it does not have a fishy taste or smell; the tuna melted right in my mouth. The sushi roll is okay; nothing too special. The combination is not spicy at all… This order comes with a regular miso but can be upgraded to the “war miso soup” for an extra charge

Ambience and aesthetic of the place was modern and clean. There seems to be an octopus theme happening. The washroom has a baby changing station, which is a plus for parents with babies...

Blue Fin Water in Smithers, BC was once a great restaurant and still is however, due to the actions of the young staff - I am writing this review. Saturday, September 21, 2024 was a very busy evening. But, we felt unwelcomed when we walked in the door with the girls side glanced to each other. The girls had a discussion before they would seat us, then gave us menus and water then our table was ignored. We waited patiently for over 15 minutes then left. This felt to us that it was obviously racism, especially the smirk we received as we left confirmed that it was racism. It is very hurtful and uncalled for. And service was given to every table around us. Your food is great, but due to this service of these young ladies we will not return. Although, we have been long supporters since the restaurant started in the old bus station/7 Eleven gas station, many years ago. My hope is that this is directed to the floor staff/servers by the managers/owners and hope this attitude does not become the norm.
