I spend alot of time working in smithers and up until now the Alpenhorn has been one of my favorite places to frequent. Food is always delicious and on time. Today I ordered potatoe skin appetizer with my meal and asked for extra BBQ sauce. I picked up my meal and drove back to my travel trailer outside of town only to discover my potatoe skins were undercooked and completely lacking any sauce besides the small amount BBQ flavored juice attached to the pulled pork. Now normally I wouldnt write a review like this, but when I called to inform them that the Appy I recieved was very disappointing i was just told thank you for the information. No offer to remake the meal or anything. I would have settled for even some small discount off one future appetizer. The cost of eating out is getting higher and higher, restaurants are requesting higher tips than before. I don't feel it's wrong to expect compensation for an awful appetizer when I paid almost $20 for it. Rating 3 stars because previous visits have been very pleasant, but I won't be returning for quite a while

NOTE: Had to deduct stars because of cleanliness. There was a light above full of dead flies and crumbs and crackers all er the floor. It just makes me wonder about the cleanliness of their kitchen. See photos below. ACCESSIBILITY: Double street level entry doors. There is a seperate accessible washroom. Free standing tables and chairs with a few booths. There are a couple of stepped platforms with seating as well. SERVICE: Polite and fast. Felt welcomed and server knew the menu very well. FOOD: Food was decent. The gnocchi was well prepared and the sauce was full of savoury flavours. The bread seemed housemade and was very fresh. The calamari was perfect.

First time here. I had the a classic burger with their spicy nacho soup. My husband had the beef dunk with onion rings. My burger was good. Pretty standard as burgers go. The soup was a surprise. I would say it was medium spicy and definitely not for those who can't tolerate anything above a mild spice. It was very flavourful although i would probably eat it last so it doesn't stunt your taste buds! Lol. The service was a little slow especially coming out of the kitchen as there very few patrons. Overall it is worth the price but be prepared to wait.

When we visited it was wing night and they were not doing the main meals. The wings were tasty and we'll priced and we would recommend this special. However the chicken club was disappointing for me as the chicken was a bit rubbery. I am not sure the chicken was just cheap chicken or badly cooked or a combo of both. However, I did not finish eating it. We upgraded to the waffle fries which were nice but I am not sure I would pay the extra next time. We also bought a small Caesar which was nice but nothing special.

The local beer was good and I tried two types. I can't remember the names unfortunately.

For desert we had chocolate cake. It was big enough, but tasted like it was made in a factory and although edible it was not worth the calories. In addition, the cream was out of the can so mostly just air.

Now the waitress was waiting on a lot of tables and I would have said she was doing a good job as she was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately after waiting over an hour for our food she suddenly realized she never put it in. The food came so after and she owned up to the mistake which was appreciated. It would have been nice if she had offered a discount without us having to request it.

I would like to go to Terrace again and might even eat there again too. However, I think I would just stick to something simple like the...

First off we had made a reservation for 9 and a baby, when I called back to update my reservation baby was no longer coming and we had 5 in our party, so whomever took my reservation assumed if no baby then no kids period which we did have three just no baby, sorry but I do not call my teenage kids babies! So we get to the restaurant and they had to shuffle already seated customers to make our table. We were told right off the get go that because their patio is full our food would be a minimum 45 minute wait. Restaurant was pretty bare but full patio..... Get more staff if you can't accommodate a full restaurant! So I ask our waitress if we order starters would they also take that long and she assured me no. WRONG! We waited an hour just for starters, which staggered coming in. Our third starter to keep our starving kids contained showed up 5 minutes before our food which came 1.5 hours after we ordered. Drinks alone took 30 minutes. Our waitress was AWFUL!! Never will we go there again!!! This is such a shame, this restaurant has huge potential but doesn't know how to run when its busy. I would like to give a shout out to the kind waitress that greeted us and still went out of her way to make our visit a positive experience even though she wasn't...

Wow. All we can say is if anyone is looking for a memorable "worst meal experience ever" story then don't waste any more time and head right on over. Having recently had our own "worst" experience we can only warn any and all folks looking in downtown Smithers for a a restaurant, to avoid The Alpenhorn at all costs. If on the other hand you are looking for a meal that has been prepared by a kitchen staff that obviously lacks any culinary skill and imagination to create anything off the meue that doesn't involve a fryer then this may be the place for you. Ordering two Tuna Pokes two weeks ago was obviously a bridge too far. The insipid, tiny excuse for this dish when it arrived appeared to have been scouped up from the kitchen salad station as a hurried afterthought. Tasteless soggy salad, cold rice, tuna (I think) unrecognisabe drenched in its sticky, commercial marinade and missing any sign of tempura. After expressing our disappointment to the server we were fortunate to have the cost of the $24 (each) dish reduced by exactly nothing. The only positive thing to come from the experience is the story if our "worst ever meal" to tell all who are heading to the otherwise charming town Smithers.

Best ...
