Had the most surreal gaslight-y experience here.
Came in with my brother for brunch on a Tuesday, there was one other table in the restaurant sat. We both looked at the menu and ordered, him a basic breakfast platter, and I a breakfast wrap, sub fruit for hashbrowns. About 10-15 mins later the woman serving us brought my brother's meal out and also some kind of cheese melt sandwich (?) I told her that it was not what I ordered and she said, "No you ordered this cheese melt." I again clarified that I had ordered the breakfast wrap, sub fruit for hashbrowns. She said ok and walked away. 10 mins later she came back with a large plate with a (very sub-average) breakfast wrap on it, and another large plate with an assortment of fruit on it. At no time did I or my brother receive any hashbrowns.
We finished our meal and went up to the till to pay. I tapped my card as I was looking at the receipt and realized that I had been charged for a breakfast wrap and hashbrowns + a full side of fresh fruit, which worked out to about a $10 difference. I mentioned this to the employee and she straight up said I had eaten these imaginary hashbrowns and she would not be refunding me. I was not interested in getting into an argument about $10 worth of hashbrowns so I laughed and went outside while my brother waited to pay. I also tipped 18% on this whole transaction btw
I was standing outside when my brother came out to tell me that this person was telling him that I was lying and that she could check the cameras to show I had eaten these hashbrowns. At this point I got pissed. I went back inside and asked for a refund for the price difference. She doubled down saying that she was the owner and manager, and that I was a liar and that she could prove it by looking at the cameras. We suggested that she do just that.
She then walked into the kitchen and spoke to the cook in full view of us, and then walked back out and said she had looked at the cameras and I was lying. At this time I was almost certain I was in an episode of Black Mirror.
Thankfully the cook came out, apologized, and refunded me the cost of these controversial hashbrowns. However, this lady was still calling me a liar as I left the place of business she purportedly owns.
TLDR: Middling food and maximum...
Read moreThe stuff kept ignoring us in spite of my trying to get their attention several times. Eventually I got up and went to talk to the servers just to be told that it is because we sat at the table that wasn't cleaned yet. Yes, indeed, it turned out that there was one empty glass standing on the table presumably after the last guests which we did note notice at first. However, INSTEAD OF JUST CLEANING THE TABLE AND GETTING OUR ORDER I WAS TOLD BY THE WAITRESS TO GET UP AND WAIT AT THE DOOR FOR THEM TO CLEAN THE TABLE. There was nobody else waiting at the entrance so obviously there was no reason to ask us to get up and go back to the entrance especially that we were already sitting at the table for good 20 minutes or more. So we were treated as insubordinate children that needed to be taught a lesson. So we decided to leave the establichment instead. On the way out I did find a SMALL NOTE ON THE WALL, WHICH IS PRACTICALLY INVISIBLE UNLESS YOU SPECIFICALLT LOOK FOR IT, that asked all patrons to wait at the entrance to be seated. CONCLUSION: INSTEAD OF MAKING A BIG, "IN YOUR FACE", POSTER ASKING ALL GUESTS TO WAIT TO BE SEATED THEY CHOSE TO BE RUDE TO ALL THE VICTIM'S OF THEIR OWN MISMANAGEMENT AND THE LACK OF PROPER SIGNAGE. By the way, in case the bisiness owner happens to read it to check what servers were on duty, this happened on July 09, 2018...
Read moreDuring my recent visit to Whistler, I had the pleasure of dining at Chef Big D's, a restaurant that truly impressed me with its fantastic food and accommodating service. Despite being a large group of 20, we were quickly seated and made to feel welcome, setting the tone for a wonderful dining experience.
The menu offered a delightful variety of dishes, and we had the chance to try a little bit of everything. The poutine was a standout, with crispy fries, rich gravy, and just the right amount of cheese curds, making for a classic and comforting dish. The chicken club sandwich was another hit—juicy, flavorful, and generously portioned. For burger lovers, the Smashburger was a must-try, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor.
To complement our meals, we enjoyed a selection of drinks, including margaritas and piña coladas. Both were expertly crafted, refreshing, and a perfect accompaniment to the hearty dishes we enjoyed.
We were fortunate to have Karan as our server. Karan's exceptional hospitality made our experience memorable. He was incredibly attentive, ensuring that each of us was well taken care of, despite the large size of our group.
Overall, Chef Big D's is a must-visit for anyone in Whistler. The combination of delicious food, exceptional service from our waiter Karan, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a great choice for both small and...
