This is a fine establishment for in-person eatery, however, I would not test my luck again ordering for delivery. This situation with this restaurant has happened before in the past but this time, I was annoyed with how things played out. Despite being very busy, the restaurant remains open for delivery and after placing my order, it was immediately cancelled. The restaurant ceased services on my delivery app right after cancelling and I assumed that they must be busy, so I take my refund and move on. However, after checking the the restaurant again out of curiosity, since it was still registered as "available" on the app, it was once again OPEN for delivery. I decided to call the restaurant itself as I wanted to know if I was able to re-place my order, since I was craving this joint, and an employee answered the phone, proceeded to listen to and then ignore my question and hung up without answering. When I called back, I was promptly directed to the restaurant's voicemail, and mind you, I was polite when asking my question as I've worked in retail long enough to know that being rude to the staff will get you nowhere.
I may be ordering for delivery, but I'd like to assume my patronage is just as important considering I'm still paying $50 for a moderately proportioned dinner and an overpriced appetizer as I would if I were at the restaurant in-person. I've heard of this place being a little "high-end" but not like this. The food may be good, but not enough for me risk ordering for delivery again. Call ahead and check...
Read moreThe food at Bodega St. Albert is generally consistent with the food at the other locations in Edmonton, the atmosphere is definitely subpar in comparison to the downtown and Highlands location.
I ordered a multitude of dishes including;
Piri Piri Prawns: They are good you only get three so keep that in mind when ordering if you are a couple.
Boar Cheeks: Good, the meat is super soft and moist however I thought they were a bit over salted.
Egg Plant Curry: To me this isn’t worth the extra money it had a overbearing turmeric taste.
Bruschetta: Pretty standard taste, nothing out of the ordinary.
The service however was a bit to be desired. One of the people we were dining with was completely forgotten about from their appetizer to their main course. The rest of the party was already done their meals and she had not gotten anything. When the person had asked the wait staff about it they were told it was a Tapas restaurant and it wasn't coursed. What happened in actuality was the order was never rung in, I found it arrogant of the wait staff not to accept responsibility and instead try to blame the customer.
Overall going to a restaurant is meant to be an experience, both food and service and when one of those things are lacking then it drives down the quality. The food is good at Bodega St. Albert, the service shouldn't feel...
Read moreFood was wonderful, waitress was also great. We had a reservation as 4 adults and 2 children (in the notes), which host Chris confirmed when we walked in. We were sat at a table, then asked to move (very politely which was totally fine) for a larger group, which we did. Then when the rest of our party arrived (the fourth adult with the second kid- a newborn in a carseat), Chris got extremely aggressive, hostile and rude telling us that if we didn't "make the table work he would have to ask us to leave". Which made no sense because if he couldn't accommodate us he should have let us know either ahead of time, or when we walked in, or when we were asked to move to a smaller table? And also a lap toddler and a carseat on the bench didn't take any additional space. He honestly ruined our entire night. I was never treated so poorly. So caution for those with children, either eat somewhere else or count your carseat floor newborn as an adult in your...
