First off I'd like to state I've had brisket from other Dickey's locations, other restaurants in Edmonton, as well as in Vancouver. It has always been sliced, and decently tender and flavorful. Different locations, even different times of day can result in a variety of results. And we understand this. My wife orders this exclusively because of dietary restrictions, and brisket is usually a decent "out and about" option for her.
So when I say I was disappointed with the St Albert locations 1/2lb brisket, it's not my first rodeo. What we got resembled more just a large hunk of somewhat shredded beef, was very dry, and had almost no flavor. When we called to complain, we were told maybe we don't know what brisket should be like, and that we should read their online reviews as everyone says its so soft and tender. Which is kinda funny, since most reviews I've read pertaining to their brisket say its usually dry with little flavor.
She did offer us a "coupon" for next time we are back, so we can try so thing different. But basically sat arguing with us on the phone, saying it looks shredded because its "falling apart tender". While on the phone with the owner/manager, they kept cutting us off and trying to speak over us, and when my wife raised her voice to cut thru the raised voice of theowner, she complained we were yelling and hung up. My wife also tried to tell her that she couldn't take a coupon for a sandwich because she has a gluten allergy and the lady wouldn't listen to her
I've worked in customer service all my life, and I'm starting to see a downward trend in the quality of customer service available these days. Its extremely disappointing. Whoever owns this Dickies should really look at who they have as a manager and who is representing their brand. One star is a generous...
Read moreVery disappointed in the experience. Went in as we were told all the meat options are gluten free. Explained to the cashier (who to their credit, was amazing about it) that we required Gluten free and asked if they could try to avoid cross contamination as best as possible by switching gloves while preparing and try to not contact the meat with buns, etc.
The cashier wrote clear instructions on the order bill and then she went over to explain to the person preparing the meat. He responded "why are they coming here then?". He then proceeded to complain and act put out the entire time while making the order. Finally while the person gathering the order changed gloves (happily with no complaints) the meat prep person who complained the whole time did not. What is the point in having someone else properly handle the final part of the order when the person actually preparing the food will not? Now while his job is to simply handle meat keeping cross contamination low, it was busy and workers were jumping into different stations and handling multiple products.
BBQ meat should be one of the easiest foods to prepare gluten free. Obviously in this environment there is nothing you can do to 100% eliminate cross contamination but if the person handling the food is unwilling to try then dont advise the meat as gluten free. Also from a service standpoint, maybe in a small restaurant where you are right next to your customers try to watch how you talk and don't complain about your customers or question why they might be wanting...
Read moreSign on the windows say authentic Texas BBQ. As someone who grew up in Texas and lived the last 10+ years in Canada I didn't have very high hopes.
Interior was nice and clean, a place I could take my kids. When walking in we were not greater and the menu board seems to be in a weird spot. I know it is a cramped place. So, memorize what you want or you will have to look at the small little paper menu.
Prices where really up there $17.99 for a plate. One meat, a roll, and two sides. We got their "competition plate" and "poultry plate" $19.99 each. Their competition was brisket and burnt ends. Both were super dry and no flavor. There were spots that did have pepper on it but not much else for flavor. Where is the smoke!!? The poultry plate was better. The chicken and turkey were both moist and very flavourful. However I was very disappointed in the portion sizes to price ratio. You get more sides than meat. This is very disappointing. If i came to eat just the sides then that is all i would have ordered. A side is just that a side. It is disappointing to walk out still being hungry after spending nearly $50. Mac and cheese was over cooked noodles with a pasty cheese sauce, BBQ beans tasted weird and peppery, potato salad was ok, and the coleslaw was the best I have found up here.
Overall very disappointing and will not be wasting my money here. I will just have to BBQ my...
