Simply Donairs — Restaurant in St. Albert

The food is excellent, hands down the best donair and donair poutine in the city. I was a bit disappointed by how their online system works. I tried calling a few times to place an order over the phone for pick up but no one was answering so I decided to see if they had a website I could order from for pick up. When I went to the website it had a few options to choose from. DoorDash online ( not sure what that is but I figured it was their online ordering ) as well as the other options were regular DoorDash, Uber Eats or Skip the Dishes. I ordered the chicken fingers and it clearly states in the description that the chicken fingers come with 3 pieces, fries and a dipping sauce. When I opened my order after I arrived home, there were only 3 chicken fingers. No fries or dip and that cost me $8.85. When I called the store to ask why I didn’t get fries it was told to me that you have to pay extra for fries and when I said I paid $8.85 for 3 chicken fingers and that’s not even what the description says is included he said well that’s the DoorDash price we only charge $5 in store and you pay more for DoorDash and they use AI to write on their website so that’s probably why it’s inaccurate.

Well why?? That was the only “online” order option and I didn’t even get it delivered!? I picked it up myself. Why am I paying an extra $3 on top of the price in the store? Which also isn’t indicated on the website. Whoever I spoke to today told me to contact DoorDash as it has nothing to do with Simply and they wouldn’t do anything for me.

I’m extremely disappointed in this customer service and false advertising on their website as well as not being open with the price difference. He was also quite rude to me on the phone when I said I didn’t realize ordering online would cost me more as well as when I mentioned I couldn’t get through on the phone line to order as he suggested. Yes, I could’ve gone inside the store but I was trying to save myself time as I am a busy mom. All I wanted was some damn fries and they couldn’t even offer me that,...

Edit: updated to 4 stars, but only if you order in person. Delivery is just too hit and miss for some reason. Ordered through Skip which can be hit or miss depending on the day (or staff?)

Anyway, there's no option to buy extra sweet sauce on the app (would gladly pay for the option) so we're reduced to begging for it in the "notes" section of the order item.

On a large beef donair I had delivered tonight (with a polite request for extra sweet sauce), I'd be amazed if there was more that 2 measly tablespoons of sweet sauce on the entire donair. Seriously?

The extra sauce can be a saving grace especially when the donair itself was not prepared properly, which is another issue:

They need to actually steam their pita bread before adding the meat, toppings etc. More often than not it comes dry and brittle and makes it an even bigger chore to eat. The donair meat also looks like it was carved off the spit at least an hour previous to the quick fry on the grill (if they even did that, which I doubt) before adding to the pita.

This used to be a decent place that had donairs comparable to the east coast ones that they copy.

Don't try and fool us. We know how they should be prepared, and frankly this isn't cutting it...
