Mr. Puffs — Restaurant in St. Catharines

Just visited with my family for the first and unfortunately last time.

Spent about $65 on their syrup-covered fried dough balls and soft serve for the 5 of us. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the rest of the experience was not good.

Many of the puffs were very crunchy while others were soft and doughy possibly undercooked. Not sure if they're supposed to vary that much but it all just tasted very sweet and it got boring after the first few bites.

We bought a sort of syringe of strawberry syrup to inject into the puffs, which sounded like an interesting option. Unfortunately when we opened the injector, most of the jam squirted out onto our belongings and the floor. The cashier graciously offered to refill it for us, but shortly afterwards she said the manager wouldn't allow it.

We spoke to Brian the manager briefly and let's just say that he's clearly not someone concerned about customer service. We probably wouldn't have been back anyway, but that definitely clinched it. It's odd that we counted about 9 people working behind the counter but they choose to cut corners on customer service. You're selling 50¢ worth of dough and sugar for $8.95 here, people! Came here with my partner for ice cream and puffs as an after dinner treat. Not greeted when we entered the store. The young woman behind the counter met us with a straight face and no greeting, not even a hello or how can I help you. She appeared annoyed and impatient as it took us a bit of time to order as we hadn’t been here before. I mentioned it to her and she never offered suggestions or assistance on how to order the combinations. Never said thank you for the order or payment. Handed the food over working like an emotionless robot. While I don’t expect a marching band to greet me when I walk into a place of business, a kind smile and a simple hello, how can I help goes a very long way and is basic customer service. Puffs were good, and tasted as expected. The ice cream was meh - very sloppy presentation, sauce leaking all over outside of the container. Considering the lack of basic customer service I wouldn’t return. Save you money for...

The options were great. However, the staff, for the most part, were not very friendly or helpful. In fact, to be honest, not at all. We were not greeted even after we said hello, no reply, and let the cashier know it was our first time, nothing. We drove to St. Catharines just to go. There is no offer of extras like the syringes that we didn't see on the menu or the types, we had to ask, types, we didn't even know you could split the flavors half one half until the employee putting it together asked, which we needed to be explained, taking extra time now for her. The product is why this is a 3 and not a 1. Taste 4, little to over deep fried I found, options 5, customer service 1. I had these in Hamilton, and even after they traveled, they seemed fresher and more tastier, not as crunchy. I'm hoping it was just a bad day. One more shot at changing this review to be fair we can all have bad days so...
