Union Jack Fish & Chips LTD 4th Avenue — Restaurant in St. Catharines

Extremely disappointed I speak specifically about the 4th ave. location. To be clear I have not actually been able to make a purchase. My first attempt I could not get thru by phone and online was not working. 2nd attempt weeks later same experience but I went to the location since I was in the area and attempted to place an order in person. When I walked in there were three different parties waiting for their orders. When I arrived, there was an employee that was at the counter taking payment from a customer. This employee entered the kitchen area and did not return for 10 minutes. During this time three more people arrived behind me as well as a door dash to pick up an order. When the employee came out he placed an order on the counter shouted out a name for pick up. I asked if he was taking orders, the door dash drivers asked if his order was ready, and another customer provided his name and asked if his order was ready. The employee completely ignored everyone not even acknowledging their presence and returned to the kitchen area. While waiting everyone who was waiting discussed the frustration with placing an order. I waited another five minutes for the employee to return to the counter only to be completely ignored again. I was polite the entire time as were the other potential customers. I left without placing an order as well as all but one customer at the time, even the door dash driver left in frustration without the order. It is very clear that your staff do not enjoy their job and dislike customers. If this was my business I would want to know how poorly my staff is...

My wife and I had the pleasure of eating their gluten free fish and chips which is what my wife must eat due to food reactions. I found that their customer service by the owners to be non plus. 3 years in a row I have tried to order on Good Friday where they have refused due to the high volume however that leaves individuals like wife watching other eat their meals and enjoying while we go without. I also found this year with COVID-19 in place they did not offer on Good Friday the option of Delivery. I am more and more upset with this location as whilst i do enjoy their food, I feel that management leaves a lot to be desired. Why does my wife have to be penalized. She has a food intolerance that could leave m her crippled over and in bed for days and i am sure she is not the only one. i have gone in at 7:30 expecting to get food only to be told they were closing at 8 and that the fryers were off. Having worked in the food industry in the past and know several who own restaurants in Ontario. I asked if this was normal practice and their reply has always been no. Though the food is good their service options leave a heck of a lot to be desired. I would avoid them if I were you. My wife now feels that there is no use to be frequent their location any longer as she has repeatedly been...

The food was delicious. Unfortunately a man who I assume was the owner was being extremely disrespectful to his employees. He had called them all over to the cash register and had a "staff meeting " in front of everyone waiting for the food. I felt so sorry for the girls working. One of the girls was near tears and he still would stop. I understand the need to train and Coach staff. But that should be done away from the customers. And should never be done in a way that belittles anyone or bring some near tears. If you want good employees that isn't the way to have them. Just as I was about to go and get my money back my food came out of the kitchen. He looked at the order and continued being mean to his staff. My daughter went up to the counter and asked is that my food? And he said yes. My daughter said you know there is a time and a place. And this is not it. He was so consumed with giving his employees are hard time that he didn't even hear her. Then I went over to the counter and told all the girls that I was sorry that they had to deal with this.
