First time customer, ordered shrimp salad rolls and house pho which included beef balls, rare beef, well done beef and tripe.
As far as the salad rolls are concerned, they were excellent. Nice shrimp and could taste the mint. Also delicious peanut sauce to go with. Tightly wrapped, held together well, you can tell they take pride in those rolls in how they were put together. Well done.
In terms of the pho broth, it was very light on the aromatics, quite salty, and also very light on the rock sugar. If you are a pho aficionado, you will probably be a bit disappointed with the broth. The meats were excellent however, lots of rare beef with smaller helpings of the others. No basil but cilantro, which is understandable as the basil is harder to find this time of year. Also a small piece of lime and bean sprouts - the usual pho sides - included, and of course hoisin & sriracha on side. I can't much rate the noodles - because I did takeout, the noodles were packaged separately from the broth and so they were all stuck together in a big way when I opened the bowl - so it is harder to know their quality but they were tasty, just had to use an actual fork and knife to cut them apart in my bowl first.
The space inside the building is very nice decor. Hard to find as it is in back of building, but that's not fault of the restaurant, landlord should maybe put signage out front to direct . Just a tip to make sure you phone in order, not email, becuz they don't tend to their emails at all times, only a few times a day.
Overall I will definitely go back as despite the pho not being the standard as some of the restaurants in Winnipeg, the salad rolls were great and I definitely want to try more on their menu, and support them. Great to see a Vietnamese restaurant...
Read moreThey have my a complementary try of their deep fried spring rolls, lol, I got hooked on that great taste of crispy deep fried light Chinese wrap of minced pork, turnips, and a touch of yam! Wow! It comes with a vinegar dip,I think since then I have visited at least 3 times and ordered that same sides, the price I think was &6 I think...
The other sides which I like it the shrimp rolls, it made with Glass flour warp with shrimp and some thing inside which I'm not too sure, the tastes is awesome, it's served with a dip made from satay, what I would suggest would be to reduce the mint leaf size to half, I'm going to try one without the mint leaf or maybe with the mint at the side if possible as I found that to be overwhelming if it's not served with spicy noodles as main, otherwise, as is, it goes perfectly with the spicy beef noodle
I haven't got the chance to try the thriple meat noodle lol it's always the usual for me, it's still the raw beef noodle, my fravourite
I would say the raw beef noodle with additional tripe would be perfect for me! Not sure if that's possible
Sitting is small which helps to keep the cost low and keeps prices low so that's a yes from me!
Service is still as...
Read moreSo disappointed today. I have always been such a fan of Viet House…always a 5 star rating despite portion sizes gradually getting smaller over the years but today was unbelievable. The pho was good, but the broth not as full flavored as usual but the big disappointment were the salad rolls. They were definitely tasty but the size and the amount was incredibly disappointing. Over the years the price has gradually increased (to be expected) but when we first started ordering these there were 5 in an order and each roll had 3 shrimp. Now only 3 rolls in the order and only 2/3 the original size. There always used to be 3 shrimp in the roll (showing the length Of the roll )now only 2 shrimp (1/3 smaller) but the price has almost doubled… so sad. I always used to promote Viet House to everyone I saw and online if they were asking where to eat in Steinbach. Unfortunately I just can’t do that anymore in good conscience as it’s way too expensive for the portion sizes. I will now get my pho fix in Winnipeg … sad but have to say good bye Viet House you have...
