Let's start with the good stuff. The atmosphere is beautiful. It's an old stone house, with chandeliers and bright decor, and it just feels very homey and comfortable. The plants are huge and amazing, and the overall esthetic is lovely, warm, and inviting. It can be great for a casual evening or just as good for a more formal occasion that needs that extra ambiance. We loved the live piano performance.
We were greeted by the owner, with a smile, and when we left, she was at the door with thanks and pleasantries, which we found to be a nice touch.
The service wasn't so impressive. To be charitable, perhaps our server was having a rough day because she didn't seem too focused or too pleasant. She came to us when needed, but never with a smile, and quite distracted and curt. To be completely honest, it was a bit awkward, bordering on uncomfortable, which was below our expectations, given the rave reviews on Facebook.
We were having a casual evening and cravings for a great burger or salad or fresh chicken strips. Turns out the chicken strips are not freshly made, and the burger was ok, but quite greasy and barely seasoned. Not bad, but disappointing. Happy to say the Ceasar salad was fresh, the beet salad was quite nice, and the fries were close to perfect- we had the yam fries which were crispy on the outside and beautifully soft on the inside. Perfect.
The brie pastry appetizer left us wondering where the cheese was. Also, they were greasy and overdone. The hummus appetizer was quite ordinary, though the pita bread was soft, warm, and tasty.
We'll try again, but next time, we'll be sure to ask our server what the specialties are. Maybe the pastas or entrees are better. We are giving 4 stars, but in all honesty, we think 3.5 would be a more fair assessment. It's hard to judge on only one visit, though, so in a few months, we'll give it another go.
One thing for sure is that the prices are reasonable, so there are no complaints there. All in all, the atmosphere was nice , but the service and food, while not bad, was definitely...
Read moreNot sure why people rave about this restaurant. The food is terrible, overpriced, and the service is awful. I called to make a reservation for 7 people. I said: 4 adults and three kids. Whoever was in the phone told me to hold but didn’t press the hold button. She said unenthusiastically to someone that “they have a bunch of kids”. I could almost hear the eye roll. Anyway, we still went. Because I have yet to try their steaks, which everyone keeps raving about. The server told us they were out of all steaks. That wasn’t a good start at all. We didn’t complain, but we were understandably disappointed. When we changed our order, my mother (visiting from out of town) wanted sweet potato fries instead of potatoes. The server promptly said we will be charged extra for that “because yam fries are way more expensive than potatoes”. Kinda classless. Also, the fact that they didn’t have steaks at a steakhouse…I would have offered the yam fries complimentary — but that’s just me. I ordered a glass of wine. The server just assumed I wanted a WHOLE $50 bottle. I didn’t complain. But that was a bold assumption. We ordered calamari. The kids enjoyed it. We ordered another one. The server brings it to the table but doesn’t take away the first plate we already finished. Then the hostess comes and takes half the plates. She said she would be back for the rest. Where did she go? She sat down at the front entrance scrolling her phone. When she finally walked by I had to hand her the plates. So that was the service, it’s what you would expect at A&W. The food. The chicken was rubbery like it was cooked a month ago and reheated. The scallops were gross, shrimp was mediocre, barely any meat on the lamb chops. The kids food was great though….good job on the chicken strips and burger…….calamari was good but not great.
I’ll give 1 star for the decent kids menu. I will never come back to this restaurant and I don’t...
Read moreService was good. Our server was very very friendly, and seemed genuine. I liked her a lot. Ambiance: definitely for older folks, probably why the restaurant was full of elderly people. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, it was a nice cozy ambiance. Decor was definitely not your typical restaurant decor, and I found it a bit stuffy inside. Could use a little bit of updating. Food: I had the lamb chops, which our server kindly recommended as I mentioned to her how hungry I am. She said it's a larger portion compared to the rack of lamb, and she was definitely right. It was plenty enough to fill my tummy. My plate almost joined the clean plate club, but unfortunately the last piece of lamb chop on my plate was raw. Not rare, not blue rare, it was raw. Flavor was simple, Salt and pepper, nothing too crazy. It pretty much highlighted the lamb flavor, so I'm not mad. I'd give this 4 stars if that last piece wasn't raw. Probably needed 5 more minutes, and I would have cleaned my plate, no problem. Plating was pretty sloppy, I wish it was a bit nicer. Menu: their menu is big. If you're not quite sure of what you want to it, the menu will definitely help you out. You'll definitely have something to eat, and you'll be full after supper. Dessert: I had the Tiramisu for dessert, it's the best part of my meal. It was really nice, not too sweet, not too bitter either. I'd eat an entire pan of that Tiramisu, over the lamb chops.
Would I come back? Sure. Would it be my first choice?...
