I had a disappointing experience at Malaysian Hut in Surrey. Unfortunately, the food was inedibleāsoaked in residue from the broth and poorly executed. Refer to the attached photos. Despite asking for a bit of spice based on the waiter's recommendation for the nasi goreng and mee goreng, our dishes were just doused with raw chili powder, resulting in a terrible texture and flavor (see photos).
When we raised our concerns, the waiter was hesitant to report it, but eventually did. The kitchen's response was dismissive; they returned the food unchanged and claimed there was nothing they could do as they've spent money on the ingredients already and cannot remake it unless we were willing to buy a fresh dish. We then asked to speak to the owner, who was incredibly rude and defensive. Instead of addressing our concerns, she personally attacked us, insisting that the food was fine because she could eat it, and belittling us for our feedback.
The owner, a woman, was incredibly condescending and displayed a complete lack of decency in her treatment of customers. She came across as quite racist and was unable to accept any criticism about her dishes. Her dismissive attitude and refusal to address our concerns were both shocking and unprofessional.
This kind of treatment is unacceptable, especially over a simple request to improve the dish's quality. We were forced to pay the full price for a meal we couldn't eat. Iāve never encountered such poor service and disrespect in a restaurant. I cannot recommend Malaysian Hut based on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I were visiting the area and saw this "ma and pa shop" along our drive. We went there for the first time yesterday.
Service: We were greeted immediately by the owner with a big smile upon entering the restaurant. She created a welcoming atmosphere almost as if we were visiting a relative's home for lunch. She was an engaging conversationalist with an approachable demeanour. She checked up on us throughout our meal and educated us on differentiating Malaysian and Singaporean food.
Environment: The interior was clean, bright and comfy. The interior had some pieces of artwork and figures from Malaysia but simple overall. Perfume was available in the washroom which was unique.
Price: The restaurant is cash only. Penang char kway teow was $18 and Hainan chicken was $17. The portions were on the smaller side. Sharing dishes may be necessary especially for bigger consumers.
Food: We ordered the Penang char kway teow and Hainan chicken to share. The Penang char kway teow was flavourful (thanks to the Chinese sausage) and we could taste the "wok-hei" in it. We did find the dish to be on the oilier side but it was overall enjoyable. The Hainan chicken was succulent and the ginger rice...

The owner exhibited a patronizing demeanor and showed a concerning disregard for customer respect. Her behavior felt discriminatory, and she was unwilling to acknowledge any feedback regarding her food. The lack of professionalism and her dismissive response to our concerns were...
