We were three adults that ordered ramen and chicken karaage as the fourth dish. On the table, in both japanese and english, a card states one could order noodles "al dente", etc. I informed the waitress that I wanted my noodles "al dente." She didn't seem to understand what i was asking and had to point this out on their card. After being served and almost finishing our ramen bowls, I asked if she could check up on the fourth dish. Without verifying or checking for the possibility that she or the kitchen may have forgotten, she just stated that "You didn't order chicken karaage." and left it at that. Just as good, as we had no interest in giving them more business after her reply.
Here's some tips to the staff:
When customers ask to check up on a dish, leave the possibility that either the wait staff didn't note it down or the kitchen is still preparing it. Do not blame the customer so as to close the door for more business! The customer isn't your casual buddy or sibling that wait staff should reply so casually blaming the customer who was clearly expecting the dish they ordered. Professionalism was missing.
If the order isn't on the wait staff's list, apologize that it seems to have been missed (regardless of fault) and ask the customer if they would still want it and you'll ask the kitchen to get on it right away. There were three of us who clearly heard me order the fourth dish and naturally expecting the dish, therefore our question to check up on it.
To those considering, repeat and confirm your order before the wait staff walks off. On the other hand, consider eating somewhere else with more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a difficult one for me. The place appears to be run by Japanese people and has actual Japanese employees which is awesome. The service was decent but the restaurant was only about half full so it should be decent at that point anyway. The real issue is the food. Most important is the ramen. Surrey has been dying for a real Japanese style ramen shop but it seems it's never going to happen. When I saw this one opening I thought wow finally but unfortunately the main focus of this ramen shop is chicken broth ramen. I'm not sure who this actually caterers to because chicken broth ramen is not even popular in Japan. So basically you cannot get miso or soy based broth here which is just bizarre. So the actual taste of the chicken broth ramen reminded me of mixing milk with chicken noodle soup it just really doesn't go, and the seaweed inside doesn't match at all and the marinated egg which was excellent tasting also did not match this type of broth. That egg would have been awesome in miso or soy based broth. I also ordered chicken karrage. It was okay but it was a little overcooked and didn't have the typical Japanese salt and pepper taste to it. Overall it was an okay experience and it's definitely worth trying it once to see what it's like but I personally wouldn't go back and have chicken broth ramen again. It was also very overpriced for what you got. Two thin slices of chicken in basically a bowl of noodles that cost what $2? So yeah as a fan of Japanese food I was a little disappointed and saddened. I really wish Surrey had some authentic Japanese run restaurants that served actual true...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreāMaruhachi Ra-menā was recommended to us by @heywesleyc and the dinner we enjoyed there was of such quality that I was rendered pretty much giddy afterwards. If you know me at all you know that me experiencing a shortage of words is a rarity, and yet that is where I found myself. Try as I might, the post meal words just seemed to evade me. šÆ
While I aspired to utilize chopsticks when enjoying my āChicken Supreme Ramenā, I quickly surrendered to my impatient urges to blanket my tastebuds by shoveling the contents into my mouth with a spoon as quickly as possible. What occurred over the course of the next several minutes is now mostly a blur to me. šµāš«
However, what I do recall is that the noodles were cooked perfectly, the chicken was unbelievably moist and tender, and the flavorful and creamy broth was wonderfully comforting on a chilly and rainy night.
While I remember enjoying the āPan Fried Gyozaā prior to the ramen, the joyous food induced coma caused by the latter erased all recollections of the former.
I do recall commencing the meal with the Edamame and that they served it chilled in smoked soy sauce. While it was reasonably flavorful and provided an interesting experience, I struggled to get past its temperature and am not sure that Iād order it again.
The service was outstanding and the staff was extremely attentive and responsive when alerted to my food allergies.
Overall an excellent meal and experience that Iād love to repeat.
