The food is average but the service is terrible. The staff speak poorly about customers in Korean and care more about counting/taking your money than serving your food or providing good service. I understand and speak Korean fluently and cannot believe how rudely they speak of others.
We have eaten in and ordered take out from Sapporo numerous times since they opened. Our last experience was the worst and we will not be returning. The restaurant closes at 9:30 PM and we arrived at 8:55 PM. We were in and out of the restaurant in less than 30 minutes (arrived at 8:55 PM and left before 9:15 PM).
Realizing that it was getting late, I stuck my head in and asked if they were still accepting customers (there were two guests inside waiting for their food). The lady greeted me and cheerfully said yes and let me know that last call for food is 9:10 PM. Shortly after showing me to my seat, I could hear her grumbling in Korean to one of the Sushi chefs about how unbelievable we were for coming into the restaurant so late (unaware that I speak Korean).
We ordered as quickly as we could because we didn't want to cause any more trouble and by 9:00 PM we had every dish except our Ramen. The kitchen staff left our ramen on the counter, however, our server was too busy counting change/closing till to even notice the food was sitting there. We finished what we had on the table by 9:05 PM and waved down the sushi chef and asked for our Ramen. Our server brought it over and then asked us to pay immediately, which was fine with us. I left a 20% tip on a $45 bill since we are the last customers of the evening.
Just after paying, one of the sushi chefs, who I can only assume is the owner or the manager, called over the kitchen staff in Korean and asked him to clear our table (mind you, we had just gotten our last dish a minute ago). The kitchen staff turned back to the sushi chef and responded in Korean "But they're still eating". The chef's response was "So?".
I was appalled by their rudeness and scarfed down a bit more ramen, pushed all our dishes to the edge of the table, and left.
They could have turned us away when I poked my head in to check if their still taking customers. They could have let us know that they want to close at 9 PM instead of 9:30 PM or change their posted closing time. Instead, they gave us bad service and made us feel terrible the entire meal.
This was the second time that the staff spoke poorly about customers in Korean while I have been in the restaurant. I will not be going back to Sapporo again and would not recommend it to anyone. There are better sushi restaurants out there – Quality...
Read moreVery disappointed experience. Yes, we arrived 7:54 pm and restaurant was closing at 8:30 so a bit late ( reason why we went for simple sushi dinner). Only 4 other guests on two tables. We were told at the door, that we must order by 8 pm or go somewhere else. OK, no problem. Got the table, felt a bit pressured with time so we ordered just tea, miso sups, Steveson rolls for my wife and tuna & salmon sashimi dinner for me. Waiter got our order and the menus and left. When he came back with the both of our dinners, I realised the sashimi does not come with rice so I asked - at exactly 8:02 pm - if I could add bowl of rice or salat to my order. A blunt "No, it's after 8 pm" .. Well, salmon slices were OK but the tuna frozen .. I mean frozen solid. I had to wave to get waiter attention to come to our table, advised him about the frozen fish. He took my dish and came back 3 minutes later with same tuna .. not frozen anymore, but still very stiff, cold and tasteless.. Few minutes later, 8:15pm another waiter came with payment terminal and asked us to pay .. now .. in the middle of our dinner... at 8:15 pm as they apparently wanted to close the tilt. She just stood there with machine in her hand until I got my wallet out and paid. What a bitter taste from paying $50.00 for 20 minutes of anything but expected good Japanese sushi and famous hospitality. Extremely...
Read morePlaced order through SkipTheDishes. One of the item we ordered was Korean chirashi don. But the dish came without the rice, no hot sauce and no ginger wasabi. That’s frustrating. So we called them directly ( not through the SkipTheDishes), cuz I thought that way would be faster. Then they were sorry on the phone, but we were asked to waited another 45mins for the delivery. At the beginning, I said forgot it. That’s too long. But later my hubby said he needed the rice and special hot sauce for the dish. So I called them back, but they refused to deliver and asked us to pickup. The point was we paid for the delivery fee for the order, and we even tipped extra 4 dollars to the restaurant for making sure the order was right. I told them it was not my fault that my order had missing items. But whoever on the other side stated that they could not do anything. At last I contacted SkipTheDishes, and they credit $10 back to us. We loved their food before and always give extra tips to them. They have great sushi chef, but I didn’t know they had such low customer service. The way whoever on the phone talked to us like it was our fault that we could not get the rice and sauce. So we could see they didn’t put any effort to treat us as customer. That’s sooooo disappointing. So my hubby just finished the dish like he ordered the curry chicken on rice, but he only ate the...
