I'm struggling a little on how to write this review, because my thoughts are mixed. Let's start with the service, it was excellent. I had originally booked a table on the patio. I received a call offering us a table inside as the weather was cold and raining. I originally wanted a table inside, but for some strange reason their on line booking will only accept reservations for 2 or 4 people inside, but odd numbers for the patio? Our party of 3 ordered the meatballs, arancini and the focaccia bread with EVOO and aged balsamic. All 3 dishes were excellent, lovely flavour. This is where I struggle with my review. Our server informed us that the beef shank was not available and the seafood with penne, was now changed to a lobster tail. Our table was booked for 5pm, the same time the restaurant opens. If we were a late booking I can understand they may have run out of that dish, but not to have it at opening is odd, especially as this was the entrée I had decided on. I changed to the rack of lamb that was the feature dish. The portion was generous and so it should be for $50. I especially like lamb and as it was my wife's 60th birthday dinner, the cost not so important, but I still expected something special. Unfortunately it was underwhelming. The lamb was undercooked, and I don't mean blushing, raw in the middle. The white beans initially were very nice, but I soon discovered how salty they were. There was a strange mix of cubed veg as another accompaniment, again very salty. The charred kale and unidentified veg were very tasty. My wife had the penne with lobster tail and my daughter the ragu. Both enjoyed their food, but neither seemed to rave about it. This could have been because they sensed my disappointment with my lamb. No I did not mention it to our server, when I've done this in the past, I either sit there with no food and my guests feel they need to wait, so their food goes cold, or I'm now eating alone as they have finished eating while my food is being sorted. Overall I thought some aspects of our meal were excellent, others underwhelming. In general I thought it was expensive for what we received and with wine at a minimum $15 a glass, supper for 3 people at $227 was not justified. I think it will be a while before I consider...
Read moreWe used to love going to this restaurant before COVID; however, since then we have been really disappointed. My fiance and I were looking for a private dining room to host our small wedding, I contacted one of the owners for information and to view the room. When we went to the scheduled meeting to view the room there didn't seem to be anyone there that knew we were coming, nor did we get the information we needed to host a wedding there. I emailed the owner and was told that the manager that was there that day was new; however, the manager did not even introduce himself as the manage during our appointment. Several months later my fiance took me to the restaurant for my birthday. We started with the mussels that were good and I ordered the lobster tail for my entrée. I have never seen such a small lobster tail before and my meal came with the equivalent of probably 2 tiny thinly sliced nugget potatoes and 1 asparagus spear cut into 3 pieces. My fiance ordered a steak that was very small with a sad little slice of potatoes. They didn't have any dessert menus available, so we waited about 15 minutes for new menus to be printed. We ordered the chocolate cake to share and it was a slice of sheet cake that was really dry, it was not fresh. Our sever over charged us on our bill and while she was off fixing it another server brought us a 2nd bill with the same error. Both of our visits seemed chaotic and the food was not worth the $200 bill as we went home hungry. I'm really glad we didn't book our wedding there as I would have been embarrassed by the service and...
Read moreWhen we made our reservation we were told we had 1.5hrs for dinner. No problem. When we arrived at our prescribed reservation time, we were told our table wasn't ready since the current diners were just "wrapping up". While we waited by the front door, we had different staff tell us "just a few more minutes". Then one staff asked us to come sit at the bar where two other people were sitting. There was no room in this location without partially blocking the walkway, so we stood by the back door. Another staff offered us a drink while we waited. This was nice, as we were on the verge of leaving. We sat at our table just shy of 15 minutes from when we arrived, not a great start. When we got our table, we were in the middle of the room with tables directly beside us. One table was about two feet while the other was about one foot away. When staff would address the patrons beside us, we had their ass beside our food and drinks, not ideal. Too cramped for our liking. The food was good but it didn't wow us. It was good. The service was hit and miss. Our waitress was average. Her timing was off. Maybe it had something to do with her drinking wine behind the bar with other staff that threw her off. She left us the bill and we never saw her again. No goodbye, no thank you, so we left. Good thing I paid cash. I dropped over $300 on our dinner (for two). I don't mind paying this, but I expect a reciprocal amount of service, food and ambiance. This place fell...
