I have been going to the Rabbit Hill Fresno Bros location since it's grand opening. The environment inside the store is very welcoming and pleasant. I've tried many of their deli cooked foods. Unfortunately I found much of it disappointing. There is maybe only 3 items that are good. Couple cooked sandwiches and the pizza. Not the boxed pizza, but having them make one for you. My biggest compliment is the bakery department. It's never consistent with the quality of baked goods, however one thing that is consistent is the awful amount of oils they use in their baking! The muffins and cinnamon rolls especially. The items that I generally enjoy are their pies, but not all their pies crusts are appealing. The strawberry rhubarb crumble is my fave. The pies with double crust tend to be too hard around the edges and lack flavors. Chocolate cream pie is pretty good. I mainly go for their banana loaves as they are great for breakfast. I but them regularly. However there is a gamble involved on how the quality of each loave will be. Many times I've had large chunks of unblended batter that cooks into a hard sizeable lump or multiple lumps inside the bread.its quite gross! I've thrown out a handful of loaves because the lumps were so bad. That being said, they have been on a good consistent run this year on the quality of the banana bread so far. My second biggest compliment is the cost to ship there. It's one of the most expensive grocery stores in the city! Some common items are 3 times the price of other popular stores. Their meat department is good, however like everything else, it's very hit and miss on how good a product will be with each visit. I by whole chickens on a weekly basis to boil for my dogs. One time, two chickens were completely rotting inside the plastic. I only noticed once I got them home and smell the fowl odour. They did refund my money though upon returning them. So 3 stars for the good stuff in the store and pleasant environment and...
Read moreStore is clean and has some products that can't be found elsewhere but it is quite expensive compared to other grocery stores. The last few times I came they didn't have any dry aged steaks out which was disappointing. Guy in meat department said they were too busy to cut any for weeks now which was disappointing. Second, waited forever today for their fried fish and I was starving!!. They need to be more organized. Myself and others waited half an hour plus for them to add more fried fish and sides. The mashed potatoes were cold! I wasn't the only person who said that. I told the man at the til. I ended up throwing away half my plate. Third disappointment was that I was told the wine was $5 a glass but after pouring it he said it was $7. I know its just a couple dollars but still don't quote one price and charge another. The tap wine sucks BTW. Fourth- you give free icecream to kids but only to 6 and under? A kid is a kid until 12 and you give the smallest scoops. It's not gonna hurt any to give kids up to 12 a small scoop of icecream or dont at all. I noticed the man at the til charge a mom cause her kid was 7. That's so ridiculous! That's still a kid! Anyways do better Fresnos you are substantially more expensive than other grocery stores! I'm reconsidering going back and spending my money there. EDIT: the savor grass fed butter i bought from there was all moldy and I just bought it Yuck it's being returned!! Edited again: went back today and returned the butter and I was told I wasn't the only one. It has to be taken off shelves that is a safety and health hazard. I ordered the cinnamon bun latte and paid $5.25 it looked good but it was weak! Found out they only use 1 shot! For that price they should be using 2 shots. Seems like Fresnos likes to skimp and save and I'm not feeling too...
Read moreAs a dad of two little ones under two, I wanted to start a special New Year’s tradition with my family: baking together to ring in the year. Late on New Year’s Eve, I went to Freson Bros. to pick up some baking essentials, including eggs. While the eggs were still within their expiry date (by about two weeks), my wife wasn’t comfortable with the date and asked me to exchange them. Wanting to keep the peace and do the right thing, I went back to the store on January 4th to request a return or exchange.
What happened next was incredibly disappointing. When I explained my situation to the assistant manager, Cassidy, she dismissed me immediately. She refused to let me explain fully, wouldn’t acknowledge my concerns, and came across as unnecessarily rude. I politely asked to see the store policy on returns and said I’d be happy to donate the eggs if returns weren’t allowed. However, after making several phone calls, she came back to tell me, “It’s the manager’s discretion, and I’m not taking them back.” She then walked away without any further explanation, leaving me standing there shocked at the lack of professionalism.
As a long-time customer of the Rabbit Hill location, I’ve always appreciated the quality and service Freson Bros. provides, but this experience was a complete letdown. Over a $4.78 carton of eggs, I was made to feel like my concerns didn’t matter at all. While I understand that store policies exist for a reason, the way the situation was handled with zero courtesy or empathy was unacceptable.
Unfortunately, this encounter has left me anxious about returning to a place I once enjoyed shopping at. I hope Freson Bros. will take this feedback to heart and provide better customer service training to their staff...
