I have been coming to this A&W for the past 5 years ever since I moved to this area, so I have a very good insight of how this resturant is consistently ran. It is a shame a great Canadian chain is falling to such low standards, hiring such unpleasent incompetent workers to serve the community. Let me start by saying I am very polite and always speak to the workers with upmost respect, using my manners and always thanking them for their help and service. Every single time I feel as if I’m waisting my breath by using my manners as they NEVER say “your welcome” or any common choice of words that you would say after someone is thanking you. It is like you are unconvienencing them by ordering at their establishment (most of the time its dead and when I walk in the workers are sat in the back talking or on their phone). Meanwhile the resturaunt is filthy and all the “cleaning” attempts are done poorly with streaks on the mopped floors and wiped tables. I have though about leaving a review here for a while … but tonight was my last straw.
I had ordered a burger, but also wanted a side of white toast as I typically order this at A&W (specifically this location). When I asked for the Toast the worker fought with me telling me they dont sell just toast, and I pleaded that I get it from here all the time… told her the exact cost of it, and still after my second time insisting I buy it often, she says we cant just give you toast. I replied saying I’m going to buy it. She then reluctently scanned through the computer trying to find the toast. She then finds out I was correct and just gives me a blank stare and I say thank you in a polite non sarcastic tone and she just stays silent like I just made her run a marathon. I am used to the silence after me being polite here.
What really pushed me over the edge is when my order was ready I asked if I could get a second strawberry jam for my toast as typically one small package of jam isnt enough for the amount of toast I paid for… and she then tells me no she cant, I then get a little upset as she knows I am a customer who comes all the time… I say its not enough for my toast with just the one package and she still acts like its the biggest deal in the world to give a loyal customer a extra jam package. After prying on my end she finally gave up the Jam.
It is crazy that in this day in age where the average meal at a&w is $15+ they cant give out extra sauce or jam to customers they know come in all the time without making it a huge or deal. I chucked down .50 in change and left proving my point of how stupid and petty it is of them.
Long rant but it sums up the whole experience of this location and sadly many other once great chains around the GTA.
Dont come here… they literally have served another reviewer a burger with a moldy bun… oh and I didnt even mention they never wear gloves to prepare the food… go straight from cash/computer or their phone to making the food! Who is teaching these employees customer service and kitchen ettiquite? Clearly not anyone! Unless the owners/managers are the exact same way. A&W and other fast food resturaunts should be taking this behaviour more seriously as it is an embarrasment to these companies. But then again it seems all these companies care about anymore is profit… hence why you wont see one Canadian high school student ever working at one of these chains… compaesd to back in the day when they were the main employees of these types of resturants! Read moreThis location has gone down hill. The manager has got to comfortable with her position. I stopped going there for a while because on 2 different occasions I had to ask them to clean there filthy tables,and they where not busy 2 of them just standing at the back talking. Today I walked in around 7 pm and there was food on the tables the floor was covered in garbage on both sides of the counter. I told one of the 3 workers again standing at the back doing nothing and she starts laughing like it's a joke. Then one of them walks around and picks up a couple of napkins off the floor and thought that was good enough. Anyone that would see the state of the floors and table would know you definitely needed a broom and a clean cloth. I think these fast food places are hiring the wrong people and the owners don't care as long as they make money. Even when you ask for them to wipe down tables it's gross the rag they use the tables become all sticky. It really made me think while eating the burger on how clean there kitchen is. I can honestly say I. Done with A&W in Toronto. Here's something to think about i was working in Guelf for three weeks a couple of months ago and my workers ate a bunch of different fast food restaurants and we all said it. NIGHT AND DAY COMPARED TO TORONTO. The service was amazing the places where spotless and these places are packed with students. When your in Guelph make a mental note of the restaurants and notice what the huge difference is from Toronto it will jump out at you and shock you. McDonald's are known for always cleaning there places and there starting to slip,there still alot cleaner. We need more mom and pop places and support them. The Indian Lady at the counter Forgot both sauces for chicken strip meals. Forgot 2 out of 3 straws for drinks.
Didn’t notice til I got home, 6 blocks away. Called and spoke to the Indian lady who said she would give me the sauce next time,
That doesn’t help my super dry chicken strips and ruined meal.
Asked for her manager, refused
Asked for her name, refused
Asked for her initials, REFUSED.
Said she will give me small fries next time and then said “I’ll remember you” but wouldn’t take my name or details or confirm this deal,
Called the manager supposedly, did not call me back.
Called her again for her to say “get the sauce next time.”
DID NOT APOLOGIZE! Did not offer to compensate for this sub par meal in any way and refused to take accountability in any way.
