I've been going here for over 30 years and I have never been impressed by this place. I started in high school because I'm from trinidad and want a taste of home but this is far from home , besides it not being authentic and tasting like real trini style food , their attitude there is very cold and unpleasant they don't actually care about the customer, I heard the son in-law who is definitely not trinidadian arguing with a customer, when the customer asked for slight pepper and saying that the last time the slight pepper was a but hot he started to argue back with the customer saying next time he should ask for no pepper instead , when the customer said there a difference between no pepper, mild pepper and heavy pepper the cashier started to argue and raise is voice , it's not the first time I've noticed the scetchiness there and bad customer service , and like I said I've been going there for over 30 years and haven't said anything, I actually drive all the way to drupaties if I could , or get food from the Guyanese at Caribbean wave instead to wasting my time and being disappointed at acr and having to witness the disrespect, they don't even give back to there trinidad coustomers , they basically capatalise on the food and culture with out giving back and being authentic all because a man from trinidad is technically the owner , and they are filthy rich and worst even change the ripped up dirty 40 year old posters of trinidad or won't even clean or paint the place and make it nicer for the customers. I went for over 30 years without saying anything, but now I have to if I could give there rating a 0, I would , but I really can't support them anymore and I think it's right if I let other people know , and I'm sure not the only person , please support real authentic loving cultural trinidad establishments not culture vulture places like this with the worst customer service in...
Read moreYes ppl aren't happy about service but this IS a smaller take-out shop and they make it relatively fresh. Down in the islands, you'd be served about the same time. And remember you don't see the phone orders on the back end that they're trying to complete. Also just cuz you're not happy with service doesn't give you the right to be rude to someone. I've never had issues with service other than me needing to rush because I'm the one that's late. Can't beat the authentic Trini flavours tho. They haven't changed their flour like Roti Hut. This reminds me of back home. Except for no spice. They make it for the North American tongue. Ask for extra spicy. Pholourie dip/chutney changes on who makes it. Not as good as it used to be years ago. Doubles were never my thing so the greasy nature of it doesn't appeal to me.$3 for one also not worth it to me now. Other items better like the roti Works well to reheat if needed (don't microwave, warm in real oven better). And while not accepting credit cards is odd nowadays, it's understandable as then they don't have to pay merchant fees. Cost of food already going up so any increase is going to go down to the customers. Parking is in the back/side of building, or just use the Freshco parking lot. Heaven forbid you actually have to walk to the store. Keep your expectations realistic for a shop of...
Read moreI can't understand some of the negative reviews on here - but I can only speak for myself when I say that the times I've been in for lunch, I was greeted with a smile from start to finish.
The doubles hands down are absolute killer! You can't go wrong at all for 3 bux, I'm serious!
The chicken roti was decent - Took me a several bites to get through the actual roti to the meat itself - I will admit that the pepper sauce needs to be more hotter and spicier for that type of dish and type place that is it coming from, however it was flavorful. Have I had better elsewhere - sure / would I get it again there - maybe not. But I am enthusiastic to try a lot more on the menu no doubt.
This is an old school family owned and operated west Indian roti joint - a hidden gem in an old round strip plaza, hidden close to deepest darkest Scarborough.
Very easy to pass this place if your not looking.
So why not stop in for some doubles and a "Solo" pop / they also carry the "Peardrax" drink (very recommended and...
