I personally feel that the GTA lacks authentic South Indian eateries that offers South Indian cuisine at value for money prices. The closest we get is Sri Lankan cuisine or gentrified restaurants serving food at somewhat ridiculous prices. I was more than happy that I managed to chance upon Atchayam in the area, a family run restaurant.

As someone who grew up in Singapore where there is a significant presence of South Indian food in our local food scene, I can confirm that they are doing justice to the cuisine here without any gentrifications.

The fish thaali comes with a portion of fish curry with rice + generous portions of fresh fish (flesh easily falls off the bone) + a side of spiced potato + payasam (sweet dish) + pappadum + rasam. The flavourful fish curry reminded me of the homemade fish curries that I would get back home in Singapore.

My buddy who accompanied me got the ghee parrotta with a side of egg Masala. To any Singaporeans/Malaysians reading this, the parotta here is extremely similar to the Roti Prata/Roti Canai that we get back at home. They come in crispy layered and they’re paired very well with many of the curries offered in the menu here.

Their homemade masala tea complements the food very well as a way to “wash down” your meal.

It is obvious that the lovely family running this business are very passionate about the food that they are serving the community here. With delicious food, very hospitable and friendly owners and extremely value for money prices, I already see myself returning to Atchayam regularly. It’s a pity that I do not live nearby them. My best wishes to the family in this new...

We had a pleasant dinner at Atchayam South Indian Restaurant. Here are the details:

Masala Dosa: This was a highlight of our meal. The dosa was crispy, and the potato filling was flavorful. For the price, it was excellent value. Plain Dosa: Simple yet delicious. The dosa was perfectly cooked, and it paired well with the chutneys and sambar provided. Country Chicken Curry: The curry had a wonderful homemade flavor, which made it stand out. The spices were well-balanced, giving it an authentic taste. Poratha: The poratha was flaky and buttery, perfect for dipping into the curry.

Additionally, they served us complimentary Vada, which was a pleasant surprise. The Vada was crispy on the outside and soft inside, a delightful treat.

While we thoroughly enjoyed the food, there were a few areas for improvement:

• Atmosphere: The restaurant’s ambiance could be enhanced to make it more inviting and comfortable. • Service: The service was decent, but there are some rooms for improvement.

Overall, we had a good experience at Atchayam South Indian Restaurant. Thank you very much, and we look forward to...

Ordered for the first time today. Was craving a biryani and then decided to add a bunch of stuff I've never had/heard of before.

First off, mutton biryani was delicious. Rice was very well cooked and meat was super tender. The flavor of the rice was phenomenal, very aromatic and warm.

Also ordered as per their menu; Kesari, vege poriyal, veg korma, methu vidai and valapoo vidai. Everything tasted PHENOMENAL although I will happily admit almost everything was a little too spicy compared to my standard; however, there is a big difference here. I find a lot of places rely solely on heat so much so that you get no flavor. The heat in this food is slow burning and lingering but allows you to collect and appreciate all of the other flavors. Truly delightful.

My only complaint was the ordering app I ordered through double ordered the meal. The restaurant DID call to confirm but did not cancel the second order and it took me about 20 minutes to deal with on my end. As far as food goes...

Was a bit hesitant to try out this restaurant as I wasn’t impressed with the already existing photos. However we tried this restaurant for lunch as we were nearby that area. We ordered lunch and chicken 65 Biriyani. The good thing about the lunch was the puli kulambu and poriyal items tasted exactly like back home. However the other items like sambar and rasam with the lunch were mediocre. The chicken 65 Biriyani was like the worst tomato rice with chicken pieces. The Biriyani rice were chunky and huge. The chicken 65 Biriyani spoiled my appetite and I regretted hugely for having tried it. We also had tea and it was mediocre too. However their vada was awesome though they were smaller. May be this restaurant is not good for rice dishes. Anyway, it will be hard to convince me back to this restaurant after having food that spoilt my taste buds.
