If a 0 Star rating was possible for this restaurant I would give it a -10. I don't if all these reviews were paid for, fake or from the old company that used to be there but do NOT believe the five star reviews that this place got. My girlfriend is of latin descent so I decided to try and surprise her by bringing her here so I could get some Empanadas and Churros. After reading the reviews I got excited and couldn't wait to try the food.
BOY OH BOY WAS I WRONG.
When we first walked in my girlfriend tried greeting the man and we got no response. He just immediately got up from the table and straight to the cash register. When we tried ordering our food we could barely hear him speak as he was just speaking under his breath. The drinks that they have there say " Authentic import from Mexico." Lies. It MAY be imported from there...But if you go to the latin section in walmart you will find it there.
After trying a sample of the Churro they had sitting out that should've been my first warning sign. It was SO bitter that even bittermelon tastes sweet compared to this. I decided to try the food anyways because it could have been a bad batch. When we got our food we were both excited to try it. I got a burrito and she got a enchilada. First off the Enchilada was supposed to have a sauce on top (thank god it didn't we might've gotten sick from it) but it didn't. She ordered the beef one. The bread I kid you not was super BITTER. The nachos were STALE AND BITTER. BOTH BATCHES. The Salsa tasted like it was frozen for a couple days and just defrosted to be served "Fresh". My burrito was supposed to have Chorizo sausage in it. But instead I got no chorizo and just disgusting beef.
We threw out our food as the bitterness from the OLD OIL (It had to have been used for at least a couple days and not even changed after 2-3 days.). We tried the empanada also (threw it out after two bites) and that was SUPER bitter too! What kind of restaurant serves food using days old oil? That is saddening. I don't even know how they passed a health and safety test. Thank goodness we didn't get sick from this.
Will NEVER come back here...And to all that read the positive reviews...Please think twice before...
Read moreI ordered "churrasco with fries", along with "churros with dulce de leche". The churrasco wasn't very good, which was due to the older avocado, excessive mayo, lackluster bread which was extremely soft. While the meat itself was okay, it was not worth getting. The fries taste and look like reheated McDonalds fries. The portion is about the same size of a large as well.
The saving grace to this restaurant was the best churros I have tried in Toronto. The churros were a good thickness, freshly made and flavour made that evident. They topped it with lots of sugar on top, which stuck well so it wouldn't create a mess. The overall flavour was consistent with funnel cake. The dulce de leche drips easily, since it is more runny than normal, resulting in inconsistency in the filling. If you leave it in the bag standing, it will drip all the way to the bottom of the bag.
Arrived at the location and struggled to fine parking. They had a parking lot in the back of the location, but it was shared with various other businesses. Right next to the store, there is a makeshift parking area as well but that was full as well. I had to park on the street. They accept cash and credit (including AMEX). It took about 15 minutes to complete the order.
Ultimately, I probably won't be back for their full meals, but I will definitely be back to try the churros with various...
Read moreThis place had been in my bookmarks for awhile. I was in the area for something and jumped on the opportunity to try it.
I love Latin sandwiches. I had the Argentino sandwich with a side of nachos. The sandwich was freshly made, huge and so flavourful. The bun was just okay. I've had better, but it didn't take away from the deliciousness of the sandwich. The nachos were AMAZING. At first, they looked like they were store bought, but as soon as I bit in, you could tell they were homemade. The salad was the PERFECT temperature for me (I can't take too much spice). It was soooo flavourful. I could buy a big jar of it. They also have a salsa bar of fresh homemade salsas, but I did not try them b/c they were spicy.
I had a bite of a strawberry churro - also made fresh. It was tasty, and I would try the churros next time. They have several flavours.
They also have several types of empanadas. I like how they have signs indicating if they are baked or fried. I had a cheese one, that was fried. It was so good with the ooey, gooey, melty cheese.
This mom and pop shop is definitely worth making the trek out to. I...
