Was looking for a good place to eat some good food since I was in the area and came across Anna's. Walked in and I was immediately greeted by Sughandi. Apparently, she is rhe only person who is running the whole show (11 hours days) while rhe owner is on vacation back home. We ordered Madras chkn roti n Chaat Papri. Both were just 10/10. Everything we needed from it was present. It looked great, smelled great and most importantly tasted great. While eating the Roti we commented how similar it was to rhe Rotis we used to eat from another well established n highly respected Indian restaurant which was an institution in rhe Roncevales area - Mother India. It turns out the chef John learned his craft while working in that restaurant and then 4 years later opened this outpost in Scarborough. He has done Morher India really proud. I would def go back and order more of this and more. The one thing I will say this restaurant lacks is in how decrepid and run down the atmosphere of the seating area looks and feels. The whole seating area needs a hose down....not even a wash down but it needs to be hosed down. It would be best to buy your food and leave the restaurant, eat it in your car or at home or in the park anywhere but inside the restaurant. I won't even comment on the washroom. I will leave it at that. The state of the restaurant is not due to the lack of care by the only person working there. She is doing everything else. The fault lies in it not being staffed appropriately. You can't expect one old lady to do everything. You need to provide her w assistance. If only to keep the...
Read moreI'm sorry for giving such a poor review, but this food is absolutely terrible. I've eaten my fair share of East Indian food and this is subpar and an absolute disgrace. I'd like to meet the people who reviewed this 3 stars and up - they need to be removed from reviewing restaurants in the future.
We ordered the bhel puri, channa and aloo roti and bhaji and aloo roti. Terrible!!! All of them. The puri was saugi, the rotis were lacking of salt, pepper, tumeric, mustard seed.. traditional Indian spices. It tasted like a frozen dinner meant for grocery shelves.
Never again!!!
Response to owner: I never expected another order of rice. In fact, no one cares about free rice, especially when they are eating curry wrapped in roti. Who orders a side of rice? Also, to insinuate that I expected anything for free shows that you cannot take criticism. I hate basmati rice, I would never ask for an order of that! LOL! Is it just me or are you creating a lie to deflect the criticism?
I do hope people read this review and go to Anna Roti House to try for themselves. Let your food...
Read moreI have been to Anna’s Roti house multiple times now. Tried a variety of his curry Roti’s and I have to say, the Lamb Korma is my favourite. The Chef, takes pride in his culinary offerings and the food is always cooked fresh and delicious. The pricing is fair and reasonable for the quantity you receive. Some folks have criticized his Biryanis and the consistency/type of the rice use in the making of. Such folks need to educate themselves on the fact that Biryanis from different parts on the Indian subcontinent differ vastly in its ingredients, consistency of rice, type of rice used and method of preparation. His biryani is delicious and would be aligned with the South Indian method of preparation with spices you would typically find in south Indian /Sri Lankan cuisine. Don’t spend your money at the “Butter chicken roti” joints, come here and patronize a hardworking family man and a talented...
