I've been coming to Belle for a couple years now and really think it's one of the best restaurants in North York. I've tried various dishes there and loved them all, but ultimately keep coming back for their tremendously tasty Lula kebob dinner. I'm a big fan of koobideh style kebobs and regularly frequent many of the places along Yonge between south of Finch all the way up to south of the 407, as well as others, and let me tell you the Lula kebob from Belle has risen through the ranks to the number one spot for me. It's a very generous sized portion, but what's more impressive is the texture and flavour of the meat. It's beautifully seared on both sides, making for an incredibly crusty exterior, but on the inside remains soft and so incredibly juicy and flavourful. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! The flavours of their Lula kebob are, to my palette, quite different to a traditional koobideh- and please forgive me if it's not meant to be a variation on koobideh-; the Lula has a more complex flavour profile and is, unlike most koobideh's, extremely juicy. It's just absolutely amazing, as is everything else there- but I really keep coming back for the Lula as it's hard to break away from it! I was sad to see the old owners go as I'd developed a casual friendly relationship with them, but the new owner is also absolutely fantastic- a very kind man who treats his customers with the highest level of respect. Sometimes he even includes a treat on the house. The staff are all very kind and courteous. I could go on and on talking about the restaurant to no end, but I'll end it here: you NEED to check this place out if you live anywhere remotely in the area... you will NOT be disappointed- the food and service is absolutely top notch. It's...
Read moreI've been to a lot of restaurants of various tiers across Toronto and Kitchener/Waterloo and I can say that this is one of the best ones for its location, price and target audience. I've been coming here for over 5 years since I graduated high school and even while I was still in school I used to buy lunch here as well. There aren't any very expensive and top tier dishes (lobster, etc) but the simple meals they have such as lamb chops, shish kebobs, couple types of fish and various salads are very high quality and can't be done any better (IMO). The portions are quite large and the selection of sides is reasonable (fries, home made potatoes, extra salad, rice, etc). For example for a 14$ chicken dark meat shish kebob you get a lot of kebob (i think 10 pieces or maybe 8, not sure, but I think its more than in a lot of other places). Kebob itself is marinated to perfection, is very juicy and tastes exceptionally well through the whole depth of the meat, not just on the outside (really good marinading). As a side can get a big amount of fries - and the fries are the best I've seen. I'm not sure how they make them but they look like they've been breaded and taste so good I come because of fries alone sometimes. A lot of other restaurants just have regular naked potato and compared to these ones it tastes rather dull and flavorless. The owner and/or cook (not sure if he's both) imports his vegetables from Israel since here they are all grown on growth hormones and aren't nearly as rich in taste as the ones from Israel. If you're looking for a decent inexpensive place without any very fancy food whilst having excellent quality I definitely recommend...
Read moreI don't understand the glowing reviews for this place. It was recommended by a friend and we were very enthusiastic about trying it out. We were monumentally disappointed.
The lady at the counter didn't break a smile when we entered (or say thank you as we left, after spending almost $60 for lunch for two!). Not exactly welcoming...
I ordered the dinner portion dark meat chicken. Either the portions here are really tiny or they cheated, and served a lunch size portion, while charging the higher price. There were 7 tiny cubes of chicken breast (not dark meat as ordered), that were so over marinated and sour, you couldn't taste the meat just vinegar. The home fries (which are chips) tasted like they'd been sitting in a dirty fridge and had just been reheated.
My daughter ordered the lamb chops and though the chops were a decent size, they were over cooked and lacking in flavor. Her comment about them was, it's was lamb (her favorite) so it was ok, but she would never come back. The rice was just bland boiled basmati.
A total waste of time and money. Overpriced and...
