Disappointing Service and Questionable Pricing

My recent experience at Caldense Bakery was unfortunately very disappointing. My girlfriend and I were served by a woman with tattoos on her arm who was completely unwelcoming and unfriendly throughout the transaction.

Beyond the poor demeanor, I encountered two specific issues during payment. First, the register total was $19.33, but I was charged $19.35, which seems like a cash rounding fee applied to a card payment. Second, the server was intensely staring at the payment machine while I was finalizing the transaction, specifically appearing to monitor the tipping option rather than moving on to prepare the rest of our order. This made us feel completely uncomfortable and pressured.

We also noticed a distinct difference in the server's behavior; she was noticeably more friendly and engaging with other customers who appeared to be Portuguese, reinforcing the feeling that we were being treated differently due to our background.

Bad customer service. Our server misunderstood our order becuase she has limited language skills, and we corrected her IMMEDIATELY at the counter -before they started preparing the order. she pointed a finger at us and got angry with us while she could not understand English. I understand humans are allowed to misunderstand, but why get so angry at us! So we decided to just leave without eating there. Very poor customer service. Fantastic pastries - really everything I’ve gotten there (and I’m slowly sampling my way through it all) has been delicious. Staff can be a bit short or abrupt with customers but it’s usually quite busy and they’re just trying to get things done quickly. This is one of our go-to spots in the neighborhood, an easy crowd-pleaser for all tastes and ages, and open nice and early making it a great pit-stop for fresh pastries if you’re bringing treats to work.
