Costa Verde B.B.Q. & Portuguese Grill House — Restaurant in Toronto

Wow, most horrible experience ever. And they added a tip automatically to my bill which I didn’t realize until I’d reached home. Chicken was below acceptable standard. Very tough. Blood still in it. Tiny pieces of chicken. Must have been the smallest chicken ever. Overpriced. And was served with no sauce. I even asked before I ordered “is the chicken served with sauce?” She said “yes, a mild sauce”. Chicken arrived. No sauce. I asked for the sauce she said “oh I can take your plate back to the kitchen and put sauce on it for you.” Why? Why can’t you just bring the sauce here and apply it. Or charge me if you must for a side order of sauce. But stop fighting with me about the sauce. The chicken is too dry to eat without a sauce. And I did not trust them to take my plate back to the kitchen snd I didn’t understand the reason why. Why can’t sauce be brought to me? What is the secrecy about? Why is it that I’m not allowed to see you put the sauce on my chicken? Why is that a hidden procedure? And when I arrived I looked at the listed menu, price for 1/2 chicken was 14.50. We sat at the table, they gave us a menu, price for the exact same item was 16.00. Why? Same food. Same portion. Why am I being charged more in one part of the store than the other part? And they will only accept cash. Because they don’t want to pay taxes, and want to cheat the taxman. And chest their customers. I will never go to this place again. Swiss chalet across the street has better food, better service, better prices, and no bad attitude and no sense of entitlement. All 4 of us decided we’ll never go back here. And we’re going to...

I can tell by the other reviews that people wouldn't even know what really good Portuguese food is, because most of the reviews are from people outside our Portuguese community. So they wouldn't realize there is much better out there. As someone who is Portuguese, I will tell you , this is one of the top 5 worst Portuguese food places in Toronto! My second time trying this place. I thought maybe I was just unlucky the first time, but after trying it again I can confirm the food is not at par with other Portuguese take-out/restaurants. I ordered different options such as , bacalhau (cod), and 2 BBQ chickens and no flavor, tasted stale, like old frying oil, the cod (bacalhau) was horrible. The BBQ chickens mediocre. As for the service, all the ladies at the front serving , barely look at you ,and look miserable. I guess the day I was there myself and my wife were too happy, and I guess they don't like friendly smiles and thank you's, because we thanked them for the food and never got a response. When we went to pay , they said cash only ( what Portuguese place does cash only on a daily?) OK that's fine they have a debit machine to take out money, if you're ok with the extra bank charges. So we took out money and paid. Got home with the food and ended up throwing it all in the garbage, because it was garbage. This place continues to make business because they are the only ones in that area serving Portuguese food. Poor Customer Service, just ordered food for my daughter's 18th Birthday and paid in full , asked if i can sent someone to pick up for me because I live at the eastbound , i was told that giving my name will be more than fine to pick up the order, the order was pick up and a tray of potatos was missing , never received not even a call to let me know, they said that they told the person who pick up the order to wait for the potatos and they never come back, it was a miscommunication, after 3 hours when I start serving the food noticed there was not potatos , I call back the store and the son's owner was a jerk, he doesn't even know how to do business , told me that if i don't go to pick the potato right know ,not to come to get the money back because he is not going to give anything, he hung up on me two times, also said that he doesn't even care if i don't go there anymore, next day went to the store, talk to the owner that i think he is the only civilize person in the store, but his son just taking over all the time and he was the one that didn't want to give the money back, this guy really doesn't have any idea what customer services is, she should go to the school and learn how to do business. A friend recommend me this place that definitely not going back, i always was going to keel and lawrence restaurants that have better customer service and there are some other portuguese restaurant...
