Consider making a reservation before coming to this restaurant.
I came here with my family on a weekday evening without reservation. The kind gentleman did give us a heads up about an hour time limit for the evening, which we were fine with since we’d be heading home anyways to put my child to bed.
However if food takes over 40 minutes to prepare, it does become pretty difficult for us to consume the food in front of us, let alone my preschooler.
Overall had good food, my inlaws loved the pizza. But just before this hour time limit was up, we have 3 of the staff (not our waiter) barge into the table and start handing us takeout boxes without even asking and taking the plates away. I guess I was expected to transfer the leftover food with my hand? Eitherway I’m not sure if I have ever come across a restaurant with staff members that literally just start taking plates away without even asking if we had finished. We had to stop one of the guys from taking our daughter’s plate that she was still working on. Not cool. Then as soon as everything was taken away, a lady we hadn’t seen all night brought the receipt and the machine (with minimum 18% tip), asking where we were headed after this evening with what seemed like pretty superficial tone. The bill was couple hundred dollars. And we had less than 20 minutes to eat the mains. Being unimpressed would be an understatement. My wife felt the comments coming from this lady was spit in the face to be honest.
We were very much aware of the time limit, and had made sure to choose and order food off of the menu as soon as we sat down. And then had waited anxiously for the food to come out knowing this time limit. Instead of rushing and forcing us out of the property, simple reminder about the reservations at the restaurant before snatching our plates away and handing us the receipt would have been much preferred.
I get it. It’s a busy restaurant. But seriously who just takes plates away from people working on their food, let alone take the plate away from a preschooler? I can’t recall ever coming across servers that had done this in my past.
I guess my message to the staff is don’t take in more than what the restaurant can handle, and have some courtesy to at least verbally communicate the need to take our plates away.
Food was ok. For the record I sat down on the table at 6:04 and was out standing on college street at 7:01.
Unfortunately I’m not sure my family would be coming back again. The food was good, but the last part of our meal left sour and...
Read moreI eat at Danny's on average once a week so I thought it was about time I wrote a review! Simply put, this is my favourite restaurant in Toronto. I believe it might also be singlehandedly responsible for a College Street credibility revival.
The vibe is down to earth and friendly – the lighting, music and design are perfectly calibrated for setting the scene for a great date or dinner with friends. I even bring my three-year-old here and she loves it. There is almost always at least one table celebrating and that lively mood bubbles through the entire space – it's basically impossible to not have a good time.
Service is impeccable – owners Danny and Anna are the consummate hosts and all FOH staff are friendly, unpretentious, knowledgeable, efficient, and never overly familiar. As long as you're the same kind of person you will feel right at home.
The drinks menu is flawless: the giant Aperol spritzes speak for themselves, of course, but the quality and variety of non-alcoholic options also deserve a grateful mention (try a Ruby's).
And saving the best for last: THE FOOD. Portion sizes are generous to say the least and everything can be easily shared, which is definitely the way to do it. The burger (with a mountain of perfectly crispy fries and pickled pepperoncini) is hands-down my favourite in the city – I always, always order it.
You can never go wrong with a pizza – I love the Hawaiian (add the hot honey) and the clam is also superb. I always get a big old salad or the broccolini to balance out the meal – and then I add some mozzarella sticks on top of that to tip it way back in the direction of pure joy in the form of melted cheese and marinara.
This is clearly a restaurant run by people who have spent their lives dining in restaurants and working in restaurants. They know what makes people want to come back. I always leave feeling satiated and looking forward to my next visit – what more...
Read moreMy partner and I dined here this past Friday night before going to a show at The Royal. I saw a review on this place and the food looked so good so and it did not disappoint! It was a bit busy so we got seated at the bar. Gordon was the bartender that night and he was great, super cool dude! He was checking on everyone who sat at the bar and just pumping out drinks to the rest of the restaurant. And we saw the kitchen staff sitting at the bar and they were all so hard working and everyone had a job and they worked so well together.
We got a pepperoni pizza with the garlic dip along with the mozzarella sticks (4 pcs) that came with a marinara sauce. The mozzarella sticks were big and SO cheesy. Best cheese pull! They cut their pizza into squares which makes it much easier to eat with your hands or fork and knife. Nice thin crust pizza and the flavours were AMAZING! The creamy garlic dip was also to die for. I could eat that stuff by the spoonful. Between my partner and I, we had about 1/6 of the pizza left to take home. I really don't think I'm going to want to order pizza from any other restaurants after this experience.
The atmosphere of this bar was so cozy and friendly. They had The Mask playing on the tv WITH SUBTITLES so we definitely watched it and enjoyed it. The staff overall were so attentive to everyone's needs and they were happy to hang up your coats in such a small space. Absolutely 10/10 and would visit this place again when we are...
