Once upon a Candy Bar!!! OMG!!! And....this is what happened!!!!

I spent days searching for the perfect basket to have delivered to my sister for her birthday and every day came up with the same old baskets that you custom build online, on your own. I couldn't find anyone to chat to, to add candy or chocolates ect... I was getting really dismayed, it was the 25th, her birthday is the 26th and I was running out of time! I don't know Toronto at all and to make it even more complicated, I live in Halifax!

The morning of the 26th, I googled "Best Candy Baskets" and "THE CANDY BAR" came up. I called thinking I would get a machine but the sweetest and most energetic voice answered! Paola was so amazing! She not only helped me choose my sisters favorite candy and chocolates, she asked what my sisters favorite colors were so the basket was decorated for her personally. She sent pictures of this masterpiece of a basket as it was being built and then at the end, asked if I would like a note attached and wrote it exactly as I scribed. I mentioned to Paola that everything was absolutely perfect and I was so beyond excited! But believe it or not, this story gets even more believable!

In passing I said that the only other thing I would have added if I could have was a bottle of wine to go with the chocolate we picked out for the basket. Now people, this is a candy store! Paola's busy, she doesn't know me from anyone and I'm not the only customer that she's tending to... but...Paola said, "You know, I have to step out this morning for a minute and there's an LBCO where I'm going, let me know what you'd like and I'll pick it up and finish the basket for you." I was beyond speechless! This was not only absolutely above and beyond any customer service I've ever experienced, it was customer service that no longer exists!

I can't say enough about this establishment! "THE CANDY BAR!" I HIGHLY recommend it! I'm still blown away! It was literally the most stunning basket and my sister raved on and on about it! She received it in the afternoon and was OVER THE MOON excited! She couldn't get over it! It overflowed with candy and chocolates! Over and over she said it was the BEST gift, and absolutely everything in it was her favorite. It MADE me burst with happiness that she was so happy....It mad her birthday and it made my day!!! Shopping here was an experience for me! Before I came to Canada, as a child I would always watch these christmas movies and I adore the scenes where people shop in these cute little stores. I couldn't understand what they were saying cause I didn't speak the language back then but the atmosphere was always amazing. I don't normally shop at local places but this store might change that for me. I love how it feels. Like the night is cold outside, you walk into the store, the store bell rings, the shopkeeper asks how you're doing and gets back to restocking shelves, the music is being played faintly in the background as you slowly browse through the store humble but cute and interesting collection of items, some even look homemade. The shopkeeper have to ask you to help her with the price of your item cause they don't use a scanner but have to manually punch in the price of each item. How authentic! You look outside through the front display glass and see the dark sky filled with small bits of snow slowly falling down, feeling relaxed from the comfort of the store's warmth and music. I may have over-romanticized the experience but the thought has stuck with me for days so I had to...

I wanted to share my experience visiting the candy bar. We came from out of state and after seeing videos of this place on TikTok we decided to add it to our list and let me tell you it doesn’t live up to the hype. The lady who I assume was the owner delivered terrible customer service … let me elaborate: I walked in asking about Swedish candy and they were out which is okay, I understand they’re a hot commodity right now so I told her I would still like to buy different candies but she abruptly walked away from me to help a different customer (her demeanor dramatically changing) and told me to move because I was in the way of where she needed to be but proceeded to walk to the back of the store. I didn’t appreciate being herded like a farm animal. I would like to mention that I also called the store this morning but no one answered the phone. Other reviews also complained about her customer service and attitude so it’s something that needs improved especially for the prices...
