BEWARE! Disappointing Experience at Dolce Gelato, Kensington Market

I feel compelled to share my incredibly unsatisfactory visit to Dolce Gelato in Kensington Market on August 3rd, 2023. I ordered a small Limone Gelato, expecting a delightful treat, but to my dismay, the cup was filled with what seemed to be more air than gelato! It was an outrageously disappointing experience.

What made matters worse was the apparent reason for this unfortunate incident. The staff seemed to take offense to my decision not to tip, and as a result, they deliberately served me a pitiful amount of gelato, trying to hide it underneath the surface. It was nothing short of a rip-off of $6.50 and a blatant display of unprofessionalism.

I firmly believe that tipping should be based on the quality of service received, not as a means to dictate the amount of gelato one gets. The staff's behavior, expecting tips regardless of the service provided, is simply unacceptable. Moreover, I echo the sentiments of other customers who have expressed similar concerns in their 1-star reviews.

Reading through other reviews, it is clear that this is not an isolated incident. Some have even reported overhearing staff whispering "no tip" before serving meager portions of gelato. This kind of entitled attitude from the staff is truly concerning and warrants immediate attention from the management.

I implore everyone not to tip at this place and to demand fair treatment as customers. We should not be subjected to such unprofessional behaviour or manipulated into rewarding subpar service with tips. $6.50 for a small cup of gelato is already quite steep, but to receive half air is utterly absurd.

If you encounter a similar experience, I encourage you to take photos, leave reviews, and voice your concerns directly with the management or the owner, Ms. Lvonne Luca. Customers deserve to be treated with respect and fairness, regardless of their tipping decisions.

In conclusion, my visit to Dolce Gelato was a regrettable experience, and I advise caution to anyone considering a visit. Until there are visible improvements in service and staff attitude, I suggest ordering from alternative platforms like UberEats or DoorDash to avoid any potential disappointments and to avoid tipping those entitled staff members.

Let us collectively demand better standards from businesses and hold them accountable for their actions. No customer should be treated in this manner, and we should all take a stand against...

Top picks: chocolate & mango Price range: $5 to $10 Dolce has to be one of my favourite spots for Gelato in Toronto. I have visited different locations, including the one on Danforth and Little Italy, and the taste is consistently good.

There are plenty of flavours to choose from, so you won't go home unsatisfied. Between us, I do strongly suggest to try before you buy. Let the waiter know which flavour you'd like to taste, and you'll quickly find yourself holding a small spoonful of delicious Gelato. It's a great way to explore what Dolce has to offer, and to make up your mind when the choice is just too difficult.

The gelato tastes great. Cream-based flavours like chocolate or Pinguino are thick and creamy, and fruit-based flavours taste just like the real thing.

While I personally love Dolce, I am a bit upset with this location. Last time I visited, the waiter would not let me buy the Gelato box. Apparently they "don't do that on Sundays". I found this to be a little frustrating, especially because I prefer to enjoy my Gelato at home. Really hope this will change...

Will never go back again! The 2 blonde girls working sunday night need to undergo serious customer service training! Came in quarter to 10pm and they did not look pleased to have to work as they were already starting to clean up for closing. Mind you, online it states 11pm closing time! My friends and I started to look at the gelato selection and the girl with the straighter hair told us that we needed to pay. I explained that we were still looking to which point she irritably said "so what? You dont know what size you want?" and that we still needed to pay for a size. We proceeded to pay for our sizes and then went back to the counter to choose our flavors. Curly haired blonde girl was serving the gelato and was being rude and sarcastic as we've never been to this place before and were asking her about which flavors were the best sellers. After buying our SUB PAR gelato we asked to use the restroom and they refused saying that the restroom was closed for the night. I will never return to Dolce gelato and will ENSURE to spread the word of its terrible...

This place is such a treat! The gelato is super creamy and flavorful, and they have a great variety of options to choose from. The staff are really friendly and welcoming, which makes the visit even better. The shop itself is clean, bright, and a nice spot to sit and enjoy a scoop (or two 😉). However not many tables, first come first serve basis. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area! Highly recommended.
